With the iphone-dev team's release of both PwnageTool and WinPwn, many iPhone users are already enjoying their mobile devices' newfound freedom. However, how was the dedicated team able to come up with the jailbreaking tools needed to hack Apple's mobile gadgets?

The iphone-dev team recently announced that its xpwn 0.3 development sources are now available for download on the github website (available through a link found on the source site below). To give you an idea of what xpwn does, it's basically a suite of command-line utilities which can be used by developers to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone without any platform limits.

This tool isn't for beginners, however. While it can be used to emulate many of the features found on PwnageTool and WinPwn, to say that xpwn is a complicated tool would actually be an understatement. On the plus side, it does come with a lengthy and detailed Readme which explains how it works.

The purpose of its release is mainly to allow other devs in the homebrew community to come up with other jailbreak-related applications for other platforms. The iphone-dev team invites everyone who is willing to take on this open source endeavor and try to make their own mark on the Apple homebrew scene.
