If you don't have the time or inclination to drag around a thick, hardbound book just to find how it ends, you always have the option of picking up pyefox's textReader homebrew app for the Apple iPhone. The latest release of the text reader application clocks itself as the eighth beta release of version 1.1.

The past few releases sport some considerable features and compatibility support. Some of these include html conversions, as well as the new "Delete Cache Dir" option. In addition, pyefox mentioned that this should be the final beta build for version 1.1, with the locked down 1.1 release ready to go up in a few days.

Anyway, here's a detailed list of all the past builds since our previous coverage of textReader:

Version 1.1Beta8
  • New option "Delete Cache Dir". If you expand a ZIP, RAR, or CHM file, a cache directory will be created with the contents. This option will delete the cache directory when you navigate out of it, which means you won't have to manually delete it. The down side is that you'll have to waste the time recreating the cache directory when you navigate back into it again. Note that moving among files inside the cache directory will not cause it to be deleted or recreated.
Version 1.1Beta7
  • Files are now ordered case insensitive and numerically instead of alphabetically. This means that you'll see lists like file 1, File 2, file 3, ... File 10, file 11.
  • Files that have never been opened will have a "fat" disclosure symbol (>) while files that have already been opened will have the "normal" disclosure symbol > after their name. This will hopefully allow people to keep track of files they have already read, although the delete button is a good way to handle that as well.
  • The Settings page was getting too complicated, so I have tried to split it up. Let me know what you think, an if you have any problems or suggestions.
For more information on how textReader works, you can visit the source page and check out its hefty set of features as well as its various text file compatibilities.
