This is after all, added profit for the already successful empire of Apple. Before, PDAs, cellphones and BlackBerry's could only be compatible with Windows computers to synchronize the information they contained. But that was bound to change because Macs didn't want to be kept out of this exclusive club. Apple's iSync program provides a technology that allows the synchronization of some devices with a Mac OS X run computer. Two product lines use this technology which is built into the Mac OS X - the PocketMac and Mark/Space Inc.'s Missing Sync. A PocketMac software program, the PocketMac Pro, works with several devices like cellphones and PDAs to allow users to sync data found in
contacts, email and calendar listings. Syncing with photos in iPhoto
and music in iTunes is also possible with this software. The PocketMac
Pro needs a Mac OS X 10.3 or better to function and has support for
Bluetooth and USB connections.PocketMac also has programs that will sync with Windows Mobile smartphones and BlackBerrys. The Missing Sync programs from Mark/Space Inc. on the other hand, focus more on a relatively smaller group of products. Users of Mac OS X versions will be able to access Missing Sync via the iSync program. The first Missing Sync program for the Palm OS allowed for the connection and synchronization of data from Address Book, iCal, FileMaker, Entourage, AvantGo, iPhoto and devices running the Palm OS. Missing Sync programs require Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4 latest editions. |
