The TomTom Duo - GPS and music docking station in one - Image 1The GPS folks of TomTom introduced a whole new device called the TomTom Duo, a device that is mounted on your car's stereo dash - touchscreen facing out - and that should serve as a GPS system for the modern car. But wait, it's also claimed that the TomTom Duo will support a unique USB docking station.

The station could scan the surrounding area for Bluetooth devices, "allow direct control of iPods" and allow you to route audio of any portable device through the car's speaker system...all from the little touchscreen on the TomTom Duo!

The TomTom Duo will also allow hands-free calling through Bluetooth phones and the playing of music straight from USB storage devices. The Duo will succeed the TomTom One as a whole new dual-purpose in-car device.

Gear4's HouseParty 24/7Nope, that's not an '80s boombox accessory for your iPod (although such a thing would be way cool). That thing to the right of this block of text, the one that looks like a cassette deck, is the HouseParty 24/7, Gear4's new speaker system for apple's iPod. Now, we've covered a lot of iPod speaker systems here on QJ since we first started, and we guess you guys have seen quite a lot of these newfangled iPod accessories yourselves. So maybe you're asking yourself, "What's so special about this thing, then?"

Well, for one, it's a 2.1 stereo speaker system featuring two two-inch six-watt magnetic shielded speakers and an ActiveBass 2.1T twelve-watt sub-woofer. This thing'll keep you and your neighbors up til the morning. So, okay, maybe now you're saying, "So? A lot of speaker systems have more output than that." Yeah, but although those speakers may be able to keep you up longer than the HouseParty 24/7 can, can they wake you up after you collapse from exhaustion?

Yes folks, the HouseParty 24/7 has a built-in alarm clock. Set your alarm and when it kicks in, the HouseParty 24/7 bursts into radio life. Yep, it's also got AM/FM radio with 5 preset stations and a snooze mode between 5 and 20 minutes. Aside from the alarm clock and the radio, the speakers also come with a three-stage dimmer LCD screen and a 16-function remote control allowing direct access to your iPod's menus.

Getting interested? Luckily, the HouseParty 24/7 is available now. It's available in sexy black or cool white and will set you back £99.99 (around $190 US).

iRockJust when you thought they thought of everything to connect to the iPod, last time it was a thunder-dome type robot, now it's an La-Z-Boy for techies. We introduce, the iRocker by Adonis Furniture.

When we first read this, we thought of a rocking chair. We'd see grandma listening to good 'ol Iron Maiden and Swing Out Sister. Then we see that it resembles more of something that you see on an airplane more than what you see in a home for the aged. It looks pretty comfy for a chair that rocks.

It comes in different colors--faux leather in black, bone, and saddle. Made of durable microfabric with 4 recline positions. Good for days where you just want to lie down and headbang to some Queen. Works with all iPod players. So if you still got that first gen iPod, no worries there, eh? Got audio inputs, a master volume dial with LED, a 15 watt amp and integrated Altek Vision speaker system that could relax you and rock your world whenever you please. It comes with a hefty price range of $100 to $600.

Sonic Gear i-Steroid 2 (black)

There's already a glut of accessories for Apple's iPod floating around in the sea of consumer consciousness out there, so what's the big deal about another new speaker system? Well, nothing much. It's just that this particular one has got to be one of the more weird-named iPod accessories ever.

The i-Steroid is a new range of iPod speaker systems from Sonic Gear. The iPod-like wooden enclosure houses a unique 2.1 speaker system with a Vacuum Valve Amplifier. And just so there are no doubts that it's using old-school valve amplification, Sonic Gear designed the enclosure so you can actually see the vacuum valve. These babies come bundled with Sonic Gear's U100 iPod universal dock colored to match the main unit and a matching infra-red remote control.

Right now, Sonic Gear has three models out: The i-Steroid 1, the i-Steroid 1FM, and the i-Steroid 2. The only difference between the i-Steroid 1 and i-Steroid 2 is that the latter packs a bit more punch than the former. The i-Steroid 1 has an output of 28 watts while the i-Steroid 2 has an output of 50 watts. The i-Steroid 1FM, on the other hand, has a built-in FM reception circuit with a precision dial channel scanner. It has the same output as the i-Steroid 1.

All three models are available in black or white.

iLive CD drive and iPod dockIn the age of thumb-sized storage drives, tiny mobile phones, and even tinier MP3 players, one would think that the grand, old boombox has met its end. However, thanks to iLive's IBCD3816DT you'll never again have to argue with your elders as to what was the better music player; this grand dame has managed to make everyone happy.

Armed with a 2.1 Channel Speaker System which allows everyone to join in the music, your playlists are then loaded from your iPod, which is docked into the IBCD3816DT. This modern boombox accommodates the iPod Video, iPod Photo, iPod, the iPod nano, as well as the iPod mini. A port is also provided for iPod Shuffles, though this isn't quite as snug as the main dock in the middle of the body. iLive set

Other features of the IBCD3816DT are:

- Built-in audio CD drive
- An AM and FM radio tuner which can be controlled via the LCD screen which defaults as a clock when not in use
- An infrared remote control
- An arm carrying strap for those days when you feel taking your beat to the streets.

All in all, old school meets new school, and the result is music for everyone - and most probably one great party as well.

KuroDockToo much clutter in your desk? Got no more room for a bulky dock/speaker system? Well, you might wanna cast your eyes on this SwitchEasy creation, the KuroDock, which claims to be the smallest iPod nano dock ever to grace this planet. Well, we ain't sure about the smallest dock, but it measures 48 x 54 x 16mm and weighs 72 grams, so you be the judge if it is indeed the littlest of all them nano docks.

The KuroDock connects to your computer via USB 2.0, allowing you to transfer your photos and music at fast speeds. And from that you can see that this one has a standard mini USB connection instead of the Apple connector so you can use cables that run a lot cheaper than Apple's. Its lights are a pretty sight -- when active, the normally white LED indicator bar glows red, returning to white when it is safe to unplug your iPod.

It also features a stereo line out port so you can connect the KuroDock to your home stereo. In case you're wondering where the company got the product's name, "kuro" in Japanese means the color black, that is why it isn't surprising if this small and black contraption is as such. This one will go for roughly $30 and will only come in black for now, but apparently a white one is in the works.
