We got word that telecommunications company O2, which is owned by Spain's Telefonica, has just secured the exclusive UK rights to offer the Apple iPhone. If you're wondering about the T-Mobile contract, it turns out that it's only good in its home country of Germany and not for the whole of Europe. The terms of the agreement are still not clear but according to the Times Online, the two companies will have a continuing share of the revenues generated by each iPhone customer. Also, O2's own network will be modified to accommodate the iPhone. The UK has a mobile phone consumer base of 18 million. Apple is also having on-going negotiations with different companies in other countries in the continent and that more contracts are likely to be signed soon. Those in the know are saying that for France, the iPhone is likely to be distributed by company Orange. Lastly, it was reported as well that rival phone manufacturers are preparing new lines of mobile phones geared to kill the iPhone fever for Vodafone as well as other telecommunications firms. The Apple iPhone is expected to arrive in UK this December with a price tag of GBP 300 GBP or roughly US$ 604. |

According to the online website of German newspaper Rheinische Post, Europe will soon be getting the newly-released iPhone as Apple just inked a deal with Deutsche Telekom's mobile
phone unit T-Mobile. The said daily revealed that the mobile phone will be available on November 1 for 450 Euros (US$ 612).Much like the deal with AT&T, the contract with T-Mobile is also an exclusive one and is likely to last for two years as well. Rheinische Post added that it tried to contact representatives of T-Mobile but was unable to do so. Prior to this, other companies trying to get an iPhone deal with Apple include: One Apple analyst in Germany commented that this partnership will definitely boosts the revenues of Deutsche Telekom, citing that the iPhone will be as massive as the iPod when it first came to Europe. |

In the UK, the prices for Apple's fifth-generation (5G) iPods have been lowered. This is good news for people who want to pick up an iPod, but aren't happy with its price tag. Unfortunately, the price drop does not include the iPod Nano and the iPod Shuffle, so if you were planning on picking up either of those two models, you may have to wait a bit longer.Anyway, the 30GB iPod's price has been lowered to £179 (about US$ 352) from its original £189 (around US$ 372), while the 80GB iPod dropped to £239 (US$ 470) from £259 (US$ 510). It was mentioned that there has been a price drop in Spain as well, with the 30 GB iPod dropping from 279 (US$ 373) to 259 (US $ 346). Some bad news for US consumers though, as the US iPod store has not followed suit, and the 30 GB model is still being sold for US$ 249, while the 80 GB version is still going for US$ 349. Some have been saying that the price cuts are being done because a new iPod is coming out, while others believe that this decision may have been influenced by the fact that the iPhone (which can also be used to store and play back music) is set to be released soon. In any case, we'll have to wait and see since Apple has not given any official word regarding this recent move of theirs. |

Are you ready for the biggest i-gadget ever? A couple of years back we told you how Apple announced its partnership with some car manufacturers: Acura, Audi, Honda and Volkswagen. These auto makers wanted to put the ever ubiquitous iPod into their stereo systems and Apple obliged. Now, having your car iPod-integrated is already old news. What's probably fashionable now is having your car name sounding like an Apple product. Only recently Volkswagen released its new iGolf with a big bang. iGolf is just like Volkswagen's best selling model in history, the Golf, only the i-toting model has a matching iPod dock hidden away in an armrest. The VW iGolf is worth the equivalent of US$ 24,171 in Spain. |

There have been a lot of reports about the white MacBook being prone to
discoloration. Specifically around the trackpad and keyboard area after
two to three weeks of use. Kyhros of stainedBook.info is basically
experiencing the same dilemma and this prompted him to start a blog
documenting these kinds of issues with any Apple products."I have started this site as a web platform where the customers having this issue with the new MacBook can gather and share information. My idea is to keep a database with all the users having the problem, so we can pressure Apple to solve it," says Khyros. Well, it seems like his cries have been heard. He recounts in his blog entry dated June 26, 2006, that he received THE call. Apple Spain has called him to say that they have been given a go signal by the Apple HQ, authorizing them to replace his top case. But of course there's a catch. The lady he spoke with says that they are still investigating the issue and that they are still uncertain what could be causing the problem. However they are going to repair his case under warranty. Doesn't this story just inspire you to call AppleCare? |
