Stuck in a dilemma between getting a Samsung Q1 and an Apple Newton? Well, the guys at CNET pitted those two against each other just for fun. The verdict? Read on.Undeniably, Apple's Newton MessagePad 2007 has been around for quite some time - since 1997 to be exact. It features handwriting recognition, and touch-screen display plus a stylus, all packed in a simple design. It doesn't boast of a full color screen, but runs on an efficient and virtually virus-free OS. ![]() The Samsung Q1, on the other hand, has a sleek, shiny look as opposed to the "industrialized" design of the Newton. Its screen has 16.7 million colors, so you would be able to watch your favorite movies here. It also has better networking capabilities and handwriting recognition than the Newton. However, the Newton can run up to 30 hours with four AA batteries, which dealt the final blow on the Q1, which only runs for 2.5 hours. And while the latter costs £799, the decade-old Newton can be bought in eBay for £50. So take your pick. If you're more into practicality, you might want to get a Newton. But if you're into sleek, modern gadgets, maybe you'd consider getting a Samsung Q1 instead. |

Recently we posted an article about the possible major delay in the release of Apple's next-gen iPod nano, based on the report made by American Technology Research. Now, another Wall Street analyst seconded that opinion saying the redesigned iPod nano digital music player may indeed face a setback of up to two months from its original September launch.Tristan Gerra, a Baird analyst, said spot pricing for 8GB NAND flash fell 31 percent since last week due to delays in the launch of Apple's next-generation iPod nano player. The delay is attributed to Apple's decision to switch SoC (system-on-a-chip) suppliers from PortalPlayer to Samsung. |

The Energi-To-Go Gaming power packs will benefit PSP, DS and GBA users by providing a 4 battery power pack which is fully rechargeable and an adaptor for your preferred device. The Energi-To-Go range will also cover cellphones for just $19.95, fitting over 100 models from top brands such as Nokia and Samsung, and will contain 2 Energizer e2 lithium AA batteries. iPod users also benefit from the Energi-To-Go Audio range, which covers the Apple iPod, iPod Nano and iPod Mini. The Audio range users 4 Energizer AA batteries along with the Gaming power pack. The Energizer Energi-To-Go Power Packs are expected to go on sale in September this year, with of the 4 battery packs (Audio/Gaming) retailing at $29.99. This all sounds good, but the real question is - how much power will you get for your buck? Will this thing cut out whilst your making an emergency call, or just finishing the last level of your favourite PSP/DS game? |

You think college education is expensive? This single lesson costs Samsung a business contract worth millions. The lesson: Don't blurt out deals before signing on the dotted line! Here's the dish on that. Back in April, Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. claimed they bagged a major MP3 chip design with Apple Computer Inc. The deal was described as a
huge win for Samsung. What's wrong with that? Nothing except Apple, according to an analyst, has reportedly Â?punishedÂ? Samsung for its corporate blunder by maintaining its MP3 chip alliance with current chipmaker SigmaTel Inc.Despite Samsung's bravado over the iPod chip business, SigmaTel managed to hold on to its key chip design within AppleÂ?s current and next-gen iPod Shuffle MP3 line. Currently, Apple uses SigmaTelÂ?s media processor chip for its current iPod Shuffle, their entry-level, flash-based MP3 player. Apple also uses PortalPlayer Inc.Â?s media processor chip for its current iPod Nano line. However, when signs that both SigmaTel and PortalPlayer lost the business at Apple, Samsung said the company won the MP3 media processor business for AppleÂ?s next-generation iPods. In fairness to Samsung there was "a good possibility that Samsung won both the [next-generation] Shuffle and Nano businesses,Â? but the South Korean company fumbled. Â?It is not surprising that Apple would Â?punishÂ? Samsung for commenting publicly about its position within the iPod Nano follow-on, and we believe that SigmaTel is likely to be the resulting beneficiary of the Samsung executiveÂ?s gaffe,Â? said Craig Berger, an analyst with Wedbush Morgan Securities Inc. The business provides a much needed boost for the struggling SigmaTel. Apple is projected to ship some 7.4 million Shuffles in 2006. Memo to Samsung executives: Next time wait for the blood on the contract to dry. |
