iPod LinuxWhoever said that multiple personalities is a dangerous psychological condition reserved only for humans haven't held an iPod with its endless mod potential in their hands. Be able to boot your iPod as Podzilla (ucLinux for iPod), RockBox, Disc Mode and Apple OS.

The instructions below, made by foxmajik, are simple but will require a lot of patience due to repeated steps and multiple downloads and uploads. Here they are:
  • Connect your iPod so it goes into Disc Mode.
  • Download the Podzilla Installer.
  • Run it and follow the wizard's instructions.
  • Right-click on the PC Card with Green Arrow in your System Tray and Safely Remove Hardware.
  • Select the USB device your iPod is on and hit Properties.
  • Select your iPod and click the button to Stop it.
  • Unplug your iPod and let it boot into Linux.
  • Download the RockBox Installer.
  • Plug in your iPod and scroll to Yes using the mouse wheel, then push Select to confirm you want to reboot into Disc Mode.
  • Run the RockBox Installer and follow the wizard.
  • Repeat steps 4 through 7 and let your iPod reboot.
  • Plug in your iPod.
  • Download iPod Application Manager and run iPod Application Manger.bat.
  • Follow the wizard and select Loader Manager.
  • Select whether you want to use the Latest Beta or the Stable Version (it's up to you, I chose the Beta).
  • Wait for the installer to complete.
  • Eject your iPod again and let it reboot.
And now your iPod is schizophrenic. Schizophrenically sweet that is.

Rockbox LogoThis open source firmware that turns your iPod sound to crunk is the answer to satisfy a meticulous audiophile's listening needs. iPod users might findRockbox to be a little confusing at first because aside from iPod's click-wheel it also employs a similar nested-menu navigation. It includes a long lists of fonts, games and themes. Album art is not supported by the main builds, but can be added by patches. Cross-fading your tracks (something that is still missing from Apple's firmware), is also made available to users who would like to play DJ.

Managing your files have also been made simpler. Using a nested-folder system, means you can just drag and drop files straight from your computer eliminating the use of applications like iTunes or gtkPod.
