Logo of Apple Inc. - Image 1 The Wiimote is surely catching the eye of many manufacturers - even Microsoft and Sony have recently been rumored to come up with new controllers that seem to be taking a page from Nintendo's waggler. Evidence of a new patent from Apple hints of a new remote control system similar to Nintendo's Wiimote controller. The new filing was recently sighted on the US Patent & Trademark Office website and outlined the technical specifications for it, along with several possible applications. You can read more about the latest patent idea from Apple by clicking on the "read more" link found below.

Telekinesis from jnjitkoff and gmurphy - Image 1We shared with you yesterday an article concerning Blizzard's World of Warcraft being playable and Apple's iPhone. It was about a hack that allows users to run the MMO on the mobile phone, albeit with limited features. Some of you said it's fake while the others found it amazing, to say the least.

We briefly mentioned in that same article the third-party program iPhone Remote (aka Telekinesis) that made the trick possible. To settle this once and for all, let us discuss further what the said application is. Telekinesis was created by a team of coders headed by jnjitkoff and gmurphy. Other members include ksmarshall, bwhitman, and dmaclach.

In a nutshell, this application allows users to remotely access their Mac through a collection of mini web applications on iPhone. The good thing about Telekinesis, though, is that it sports a wide range of other remarkable features. Some of which include:
  • Stream music and videos from your computer learn how
  • Screen capture with mouse click and basic typing support
  • Simple iTunes Remote control
  • Browse your files
  • Run applescript remotely
  • iSight image capture
  • Easily create and add more apps
Take note that this build, v0.9.16 Alpha, is just a developer prototype and is intended as a demo to introduce the program to the public. And as such, there are certain security considerations that you have to keep in mind should you intend to use it. The following were provided by the developers themselves.
  • It will have the same access privileges as your user account
  • The login and password you specify will be stored on disk, so should be different, but as strong as your account password.
  • Don't leave it running if you aren't using it
The download package below doesn't not contain a Readme file so you may want to refer first to our Source link before using this on your Mac and iPhone.

Griffin Technology's AirDock - Image 1 Griffin Technology is at it again. After releasing three new iPod cases last week, the popular accessory maker is now unveiling a new docking station - AirDock - for Apple's portable media player. The obvious advantage and unique feature of this station is that it can be controlled via remote control.

Not only that, AirDock is also capable of recharging your unit's battery whenever it's on idle mode. Griffin made sure that the accessory has the ability to sync with your computers too.

All you have to do is connect AirDock to your computer's USB port, then plug in your iPod to recharge its battery while you sync with iTunes. The accessory also comes in with "HomeConnect" cable that allows it to be connected to the stereo or TV sets.

In this way, you can actually listen to music and enjoy pictures, as well as videos, from a distance using the RF remote control. AirDock is priced for US$ 69.99. In case you are interested, the Read link should take you to Griffin Technology's product page where you can order AirDock online.

Geneva Sound System XL - Image 1iPod docks typically come in small sizes. Of course, there's always the exception - like the Tune-In Bed. Today we came across another one thanks to Uber-Review: the Geneva Sound System XL. Check it out on the right.

Looks custom made for an iPod, right? Actually, aside from working as an iPod dock, the Geneva Sound System XL can also act as a huge speaker for other mp3 players. You can also connect it to vinyl, TV or any audio using the bundled audio and line-in (RCA) cables. It also has a built-in FM radio receiver and a slot-loading CD that can read both audio CDs and mp3s.

Yeah, it's big - it weighs 38kg and is 61cm high - but that's because it has a 600-watt high fidelity digital amplifier. This behemoth is available in three colors: white, red, and black. The price? US$ 1,075 without the optional aluminum floor stand, US$ 1,194 with it. Oh, and it also comes with a remote control.

Apple - Image 1 Apple recently filed a patent on what could be some kind of total home entertainment system that will read music and video from just about every medium from iPods, computers or stand-alone DVD players.

The device may be an enhancement to the already-released Apple TV or may also be an entirely different device in itself. It was also speculated that the device may record media or stream data similar to a Slingbox.

The patent says that this Apple concept is segmented - divided into different modules - and has a central hub coordinating the exchanges. Of course, the user will be able to call the shots in a multitude of ways. Theories that a mouse and keyboard, a remote control or the iPhone can be used to direct everything have surfaced, although no confirmations have been made.

If Apple follows its innovative tradition of allowing third parties to create products that will enhance the system, firms will be likely to get in a rush to capitalize on this market opportunity. Still, everything's still just a patent at this point and a lot of modifications may still be made. We'll keep you posted for new developments. If you want to read more about this new Apple brainchild, follow the read URL.

Slingbox Pro - Image 1

Reports of Sling Media working on making their Slingbox placeshifting device compatible with Apple's new Apple TV have been confirmed according to The Unofficial Apple Weblog. The confirmation was reportedly made by Dave Zatz, an employee at Sling Media.

For those who have yet to encounter it, the Slingbox is a TV streaming device that lets users stream and view video from their AV sources (DVD player, TiVo, etc.) remotely on their Internet-capable PCs. It also has an IR blaster that lets users control their AV source as if they were in their living rooms and using a standard remote control.

The report from The Unofficial Apple Weblog says that the Slingbox Pro will apparently connect to the Apple TV via the component outputs. It will give users access not only to their videos but also to their entire iTunes library. Users can also reduce bandwidth by choosing audio only mode on the SlingPlayer software.

Flight+ - Image 1 Apple and Nike are at it again, and this time they're planning to release a series of follow-ups to the successful Nike + iPod Sport Kit. According to iLounge, Nike plans to release a series of at least two and perhaps three hybrid watch and wireless remote control accessories for Nike + iPod Sport Kit-equipped iPod nanos.

The first one up is Flight+ (US$ 129), a wireless iPod remote control housed within a fully-working wristwatch body. iLounge reveals that "Flight+’s music controls, such as volume and track adjustment, are built into a rocking bezel around its central Electroluminescent (EL) backlit watch screen."

Flight+ will be available in two colors and will feature the typical watch functions such as time, date, and alarms as well as the ability to trigger the Nike + iPod Sport Kit’s voice feedback feature. The Flight + is planned for a May 1 release this year.

CES 2007

Uh-oh. It looks like those metal-scavenging Jawas have finally gotten their grubby paws on R2D2 and have turned him into... well, an iPod dock. As spotted at the CES 2007 floor, this little droid won't exactly pilot your X-Wing for you anymore, but it CAN play your tunes and project your movies.

R2D2?? What have those Jawas done to you??At the Nikko Home Electronics corner, the R2-D2 DVD Projector was spotted being sold for more than US$ 2,000. You can pop in your favorite DVD movie in the slot and project the show onto your wall. If you're tired of that, R2D2 can also play your CDs or hook up to your iPod.

This guy's true purpose is to play DVDs though, and can display an image on the wall at up to 80 inches wide, or he can tilt up so he can project onto the ceiling, just so you can lie back while you watch the latest season of "House MD".

As for the remote, the remote control slides out of a replica of the Millennium Falcon. Besides controlling the projector though, this remote can also move R2D2 himself, making him go forward, reverse, right, left, and do pivot turns as he makes his signature bleeps and boops (I have to admit, that is so darned cute...).

Now if only he came with his mini-zapper and his rocket boosters, it would be perfect.
