Great news for retro gamers everywhere: ScummVM has been updated to version 0.12.0, with added support for several games (check out the list of games in the full article). Versions have been released for several platforms, including the PC, Wii, PSP, and iPhone.

Online multiplayer solutions provider Quazal has announced that it will be extending its support to include the Mac platform. This move should make it easier for game developers to cater to the Mac gaming audience. More on this in the full article.

What we like about N'gai Croal is how he's able to pull off asking some of the tough questions that would get other games and tech reporters shot (by French ninjas, no less). He let us know of a funny new post to his tech blog where he discusses, in an iTunes playlist style, who should be watching out for themselves in a future filled with Apple's iPhone. Some of them you might know because you own these pieces of tech now: the PSP and DS.

On the PSP side, which is at number seven, he notes how the development of the iPhone could eat into the mobile media industry that Sony's trying to get a handle on. He writes,

After all, the iPod has iTunes (with music, movies, TV and games); while the PSP has the PlayStation Network (for PS2 games that can run on the PSP's emulator and...nothing else right now - more than two years after its launch.)

Suffice it to say that with the advent of even more tech that's touch-screen enabled, Sony really ought to think about following suit, possibly integrating it with their now-famous XMB interface.

Nintendo's dual-screen handheld doesn't really have a lot to fear from the iPhone, at least when it comes to getting sold. The problem will lie in sustaining the interests of casual owners. Croal asks: "How long will it take publishers to bring knockoffs to the touch-enabled iPhone, along with other games that take advantage of the iPhone's audio, video and communications capabilities?"

While we could talk about how Apple should be afraid of its own iPhone announcement (it's at number two, by the way), one of them will really hit us hard. That's the one in which Croal talks about us, as Time's People of the Year. Do we really want to spend a couple of hundred dollars for a phone/medium-range PC/ portable movie theater? Personally, if my iPhone doesn't make my coffee in the morning, I'll stick to my bulky, but lovable, Hello Kitty custom-case home computer, thank you very much.

Wanna start rocking out on your Mac? Maybe you're looking to melt your housemates' faces with a few solos? Thanks to Frets on Fire, you can do exactly that.

Frets on Fire is an Open Source cross-platform clone of the hit PS2 game Guitar Hero. It includes support for OS X, and while the program was originally designed to be played with a keyboard, you can use the actual Guitar Hero controller (along with a PS2 to USB adapter that you can probably grab at any Radio Shack outlet) to play Frets on Fire on your Mac.

Frets on Fire runs fine on Intel-based Macs.

When will they ever learn that crime doesn't pay - not even for these robbers who managed to steal 39 iPods and several PS2 games in 15 second?

The amazing criminal act committed at a Target store in Utah baffled law enforcers with its world-record speed but was caught on tape by the store's surveillance cam. The incriminating video footage showed one of the suspects stuffing 39 iPods down his over-sized pair of pants before walking out of the store undetected.

Target's security department immediately sent out pictures of the three suspects, all from New York, to other stores including their Centerville branch where the suspects happened to be on the brink of another iPod heist. Unfortunately for the robbers, the iPod case at Centerfield proved to be too much of a challenge and the suspects were able to flee before the police arrived. But not before the store's security wrote down their license plate.

When the long arm of the law finally caught up with them, the trunk of their getaway car contained a bag full of iPods (worth about US$ 7,000) and PS2 games (about a few hundred dollars) and the oversized pair of pants (available free wherever reformed fashion victims throw out their out-of-fad clothes).

Had the police not caught up with the robbers, the group had plans of raiding every Target store in Utah, Nevada and possibly Arizona.

If you're like me, you already have a bunch of wires cluttering up your desk. I've switched over to a wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, wireless headset, I've got wireless phones, wireless Xbox 360 controller, wireless PS2 controller, Wi-Fi router, two computers connected by wi-fi, wireless Xbox controller, my PSP is wireless and my DS is wireless, not to mention my Palm, and I still have a bunch of wires splattered all Natural Born Killers style on the floor, dead.

Well, even though the interference from all those devices is about to drive me damn wild, and I think I picked up a signal from beyond the dead last night while I was chomping down on turkey, I still like not having wires connected to all my stuff. Wireless is the wave of the future, man. And I'd like my iPod to be, too.

The fine folks over at ZDNet feel the same way. With two MP3 devices being unveiled at the CES in Las Vegas, they wonder if Apple might be close to announcing wireless compatibility for its next generation of iPods. Though the article said it would be convenient to be able to purchase music on the fly, I would actually be more interested in being able to transfer songs by wi-fi.

"I like the idea. The fact of a mobile device requiring a user to be stationary - such as being at home to sync- is counterintuitive. I mean, consuming music through a portable player is something usually done when you are in motion, right?"

Here's hoping that Apple has more than one trick rolled up its sleeve come Macworld next week.
