Nes.App screenshot - Image 1Developer nervegas is announcing the latest build of the NES.app emulator for the iPhone. This app is a game emulator that allows iPhone users to play NES games. NES.app is based on the InfoNES emulator available for various computer OS, consoles, and mobile phones.

This new release (0.99.05) is reported to address a multi-touch issue that's caught nervegas' attention. According to nervegas, the issue had something to do with sliding with B and A. If you've had any problems similar to the one addressed in this build, download the app below and update.

That's all to report for the moment, although we strongly advise users (double for first-timers) to pore over the readme included in this download bundle. All your concerns should be addressed there. Enjoy the download.

iPhone NES.app v0.99.02: controller fixes and optimization implemented - Image 1Homebrew developers nervegas, dshadow, and the rest of the NES.app team have been pretty busy lately. In case you haven't heard yet, they just rolled out another update on their program which fixes some of the minor issues with the virtual control pad.

If you're not familiar with this application, it's essentially a NES emulator for the iPhone based on pNesX. The most recent update, NES.app v0.99.02, fixes the bug when sliding your finger from the virtual direction pad to the select or start buttons would cause it to keep registering movement.

In addition to this, the corners of the pad have been expanded, making the controller far more responsive than before. If you've been using a previous version, you may want to upgrade to the latest version for the fixes and improvements.

If you decide to do so, be sure to go over the Readme document included with the download package to avoid any problems with installation.

iPhone NES.app v0.99.0: Ready for prime-time - Image 1

If you're an iPhone owner and a fan of 8-bit games, there is no reason for you not to be using the NES.app. This handy application is an emulator which lets you enjoy various NES games on your beloved phone.

NES.app v0.99.0 has quite a few changes that's very attractive to those already using a previous version. The user interface has been polished and the controls have already been "perfected" (at least according to the change log submitted by the developers). They noted that this program is now "ready for prime-time," and after seeing the application we're inclined to agree with them on that statement.

Homebrew developers dshadow, nervegas and the rest of the team really did a great job with this release. If you plan on downloading and trying this program out, be sure to go over the entire readme file to avoid any problems.

Full screen portrait mode of NES.app v0.58 for Apple's iPhone - Image 1 Full screen portrait mode of NES.app v0.58 for Apple's iPhone - Image 2

Barely half a week has gone by since our last update from homebrew developers nervegas, dshadow and the rest of their team regarding their NES.app emulator for Apple's iPhone. For those nostalgic about the good old days of 8-bit generation games, you can now relive them with this homebrew emulator.

Notable changes to NES.app version 0.58 since the last version center mainly on the saving processes of the application. Also, an "Enlarge Screen" option for portrait mode has been added as well as other minor tweaks and bug fixes. The readme file on their website also went into the specifics on the "Enlarge Screen" option available in portrait mode. Here's a short explanation from the readme:

Using the enlarged screen option, you can zoom in on your favorite game as close to "full screen" as the NES aspect ratio will allow. NOTE: Using the enlarged screen mode slows down the display a bit, so it is recommended that you bump your FrameSkip by one more if using it.

As always, we suggest that you go over the complete readme before installing NES.app. If you want to check out the changelog since the last release, click the Full article link below.

NES.App - Image 1The NES.app team has once again released an update for their Nintendo Entertainment System emulator for the Apple iPhone. The project's really coming along nicely, and if you've got an iPhone, check out NES.app for some old-school gaming fun. Here's the changelog for version 0.48:
  • [nervegas] More improvements to save-state wiring (WIP)
  • [nervegas] Added "Multitouch State" preference (see README)
Here's an explanation of the new Multitouch State preference feature straight from the readme file. The readme's been bundled with the binary release archive, so make sure to read through it before you try installing this app.

The multitouch reports mouseDown and mouseDragged events separately, and so you can run while holding 'B', for example, but the iPhone appears to get pushed to the limits when you are holding a direction and dragging on another. It thinks your thumb moved off the directional pad to the button, and so it fails to report the necessary mouseUp event for the directional pad.

As a result, if you are doing something complex, such as running with B held down, then jump with A, you will also need to slide your thumb back off the directional pad (to zero, or to the other size) to stop running as that mouseUp will not be reported.

There is a "Multitouch State" switch in the preferences section. Setting this to "Off" will disconnect the controller state when this happens, meaning you will stop moving and need to push the directional arrow again. Leaving it in its default "on" position will allow the movement to continue, giving you the behavior described above.

Click on the download link below for NES.app's latest binary release.
