Well actually, it has been run natively, but it doesn't mean it loves OSX. In fact, M. Gagnon, the GIMP tweaker who we extracted this find from, has been able to build the GNU Image Manipulation Program in Mac OSX with Imiendo's GTK+ porting kit. This isn't exactly new, but the porting of GIMP to Mac OSX is actually common practice for GTK+ porters, so that they can experience the porting process first-hand and then begin their own porting projects in greater detail. While it isn't exactly required that you know Linux code, it would be a great help to know if what you're doing is right. But more importantly, perhaps, is that direct porting isn't always as simple as cha-cha. For a basic port, GIMP will sneeze a few glitches once in a while. But more often than not, it wouldn't be safe at all for everyone to use. Plus, as Gagnon found out, the ported program is difficult to distribute because of lack of package support. If there's anything that you know that you think could help, hop on over to the GTK+ dev site and suggest your input at the forums. It's here you'll be able to view a step-by-step guide to performing your own port. |

Ecto continues the Kung-Log tradition of being the best desktop blogging client out there for Mac OSX and Windows users. It supports a wide range of weblog systems, such as Blogger, Blojsom, Drupal, MovableType, Nucleus, TypePad, and WordPress. The key feature of ecto is that unlike your weblog's control panel, you can use this application offline and enjoy the perks of writing and manage entries with the aid of tools like spellcheck, creating links, attachments, and much more. Adriaan is still keeping us in suspense on ecto3. Currently, he is taking his time on the full rewrite of ecto2 to ecto3, so we'll have to wait a little more. Good thing he released v2.4.1 as a worthwhile filler. Adriaan says, "I have decided to release an Intel build of ecto 2.4.1. It is not fully tested and no support will be provided, but it should be a good interim solution for those having trouble running the PPC version on intel Macs." Changelog:

Last week we reported a review of 5 BitTorrent clients that supported Mac OSX, with the results pretty inconclusive. There wasn't any super Mac OSX torrent clients that really stood out, and hopefully this latest program called 'BitRocket' should be much better. The feature list is very impressive, with the User Interface along featuring:
Not only does this mean that they can usually get much better speeds than downloading an attachment, they can pause, stop and resume the file when they wish. No excuses for 56k users! Beware though, this client has a maximum file transfer size of 2GB, so don't try sharing files over that size. Download: [BitRocket - Mac OS X BitTorrent Client v0.2 beta] |

Bryce 5, a 3D design app which specializes in modeling landscapes and animations costs about $70 to buy, but for a limited time (until September 6th), you can get this piece of software for free. All you have to do to get this is to head over to the Bryce 5 site which offers download links for either the Mac or PC version. Although it states that the program will not run under Mac OSX Tiger, David Chartier has tested it and it does work. Once you have the download sorted out, the first time you start Bryce 5 it will prompt you to log in and register the application for free at their site. You'll probably have to create a new, free account but once you're logged in the registration link Bryce gives you will create your extra-lengthy registration code. That's how simple it is to get your $70 application for free! Just make sure you do it before the deadline of September 6th. |

At least five employees of Apple have been removed from their jobs after they were found guilty of downloading the Mac OS Leopard illegally over the internet. Apparently, these employees were able to acquire copies of the Operating system which were distributed to developers at the Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference two weeks ago. It is rumored that dozens more are to face the same charges and are also bound to be terminated from the company. It is currently still unclear as to whether they have shared copies of the unreleased OS or if they separately acquired the software. Though some people may think that Apple may be getting a bit too heavy-handed, the measures which they have taken could be understandable, considering all of the effort that they have taken in order to keep the Leopard under wraps until its official release in Spring of 2007. On top of that, Apple has also had to deal with a deluge of fake Leopard screenshots which circulated throughout the internet several months ago. The company is infamous for having tracked down three people whom they claim have originally uploaded copies of the developer's version of the Mac OS Tiger back in 2004. Apple's aggressive tactics may seem to be taking effect however, since popular torrent sites have already started to systematically delete torrents that are somehow related to the OS in question. |

The simple interface works great, and according to reviewers gives a great video output perfect for any iPod. The only limitations with this version of the program (v1.0) is that you cannot use this application to convert flv files (what YouTube uses) stored on your local computer, and that it doesn't have a progress meter to tell you how much of the video has been converted. Besides that, this program works really well and hopefully requested features such as a progress meter and local flv file support can be added in a later version. Download: [PodTube v1.0] |

Remember the Apple Mighty Mouse? If you don't, I'll refresh your memory. The Apple Mighty Mouse is what Mac boffins would like to call the next generation of the Apple one-click mouse. The brand spanking new Mighty Mouse which we reported on yesterday features wireless Bluetooth connectivity up to 30 feet and laser tracking 20 times better than other laser tracking devices - slicker than your average optical mouse! It also has a scroll ball with 360 degree turning capability - almost turning your mouse into a mini trackerball when in use. You may have noticed I said one-button mouse earlier. Well, the new Apple Might Mouse is a one-button mouse...with two press-able button functions. Touch-sensitive technology under the shell detects which part of the mouse you're clicking, so you can both left-click and right-click whilst not loosing the classic Mac one-click. If you prefer the one-click option, just change your preferences in your Mac OSX system preference pane! The price? $69 with free shipping direct from the Mac store. Some people may think this is too expensive, but for what you get it sounds like a good deal to me! Can I get one for my Windows PC? Via: [Apple Store - New Mighty Mouse] |

For instance, there's the The Stinky Meat Project which chronicles what happened when the blogger took three kinds of meat, let it "ripen" for 19 days until 1,000,000 maggots moved in and stuck them in the yard of his unwitting neighbor. And you thought living next door to a strange lady with 1,000,000,000 kitties in her house was bad. Did you hear about blogger Stinky Feet? His impossibly gross mission is to infect himself with athlete's foot. We have to say, it's one of the best-looking blogsites we've seen. And we've seen a lot. Even Stinky Meat and Stinky Feet would look fresh and appealing if they had iFizzle's super eye-candy look! View: [iFizzle] |

Firstly, watch the video below. To me this is one of the most convincing fakes I've seen for a while, and I say that only because it has a video to show it off. Someone wants us to believe that they have ported Mac OSX Leopard to the Video iPod, and not only this, they have also got themselves or made a touch screen for the iPod. There are two main reasons to why I think this is a fake, but the final decision is up to you. Firstly the screen resolution seems way too high for the iPod, and the general appearance just seems like a straight video. Secondly the stylus sync is too un-smooth and mis-timed.
Have a look at the video and let us know what you think... |

Blogging is so popular today it seems everyone on the planet has one. No surprise there's at least one blog site to suit every possible taste. Even the weird ones.
