Steve JobsIn its more than 20 years of existence, MacWorld Expo has always been held during the first weeks of January. Next year isn't any different to the previous conferences. One highlight of such activities are the keynote speeches, especially that of Steve Jobs. Probably the most celebrated of all Apple officials, Jobs words are sometimes as good as their company's stand on particular matters.

Again, next year shouldn't be any different as Steve Jobs would be present at the expo. The big question now is, what is he going to talk about? The last thing we heard from the guy was something about looking back and beyond the iPod...Or was it the CNBC interview? We can't remember anymore.

Anyway, some people are not willing to wait until January to find out. They would rather confer now and speculate on these matters. Nope, they are not spreading rumors. They. Are. Just. Talking. Since we don't want you guys waiting or getting left behind, here's their take on the matter:
  • Steve will definitely talk about: OS X Leopard, iLife 07, and iTV
  • Steve will probably talk about: MacPro revisions, revised cinema displays, MacMini revision, iPhone and full screen iPod
  • Steve will possibly but not likely talk about: Apple Tablet and MacBook Sub Notebook
What do you think? Do you share the same opinions? Please feel free and share your own MacWorld opinions with us. Remember: we are just talking.

AppleSince its announcement, Apple fanatics - and video enthusiasts in general - have been entranced by what Apple is currently calling its iTV video extender. Speculations,  rumors, and various what-have-yous have surrounded this little doodad, mostly regarding its technical and hardware aspects. We've also done our part in bringing these speculations and rumors into the light (who hasn't, really?) and now, just for some balance, we'll be taking a look at an opinion/analysis piece that deals with Apple's business strategy for the home entertainment market.

On his PBS blog, Robert X. Cringely has written a piece that seeks to cast some light into Apple's strategy for the iTV. He touches on topics such as the lack of a Blu-Ray player bundled with Apple computers and that little USB port on the back of each iTV box ("It's not for a USB hard drive, that's for sure"). Wanna know what he reckons it's for? An Apple iSight camera. This is why Cringely dubs Apple's strategy, "iChat on steroids."

Says Cringely:

"This is the heart of Apple's emerging communication strategy. I was tempted to write "voice-over-IP strategy," except that wouldn't have been correct. For Jobs, this particular road less traveled is about video conferencing, not voice. VoIP is not grand enough, not experiential. If eBay can dominate it, Apple doesn't want to be a part of it, and won't be. Jobs will be much happier enabling a smaller audience to do multi-person chats on their HDTVs."

Cringely doesn't only talk about the iTV. He also throws in a little Leopard into the mix: "All of this comes together with Leopard, the next version of OS X, which will ship in January. iChat, which started back in 2003 as a simple real-time chat client to keep Macs from being frozen completely out of AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), has grown a lot since then. iChat now has H.264 video support, and with Leopard it will integrate all the iLife (iPhoto, iCal, iMovie, etc.) functions into a system that can support remote users. So you'll not only be able to see and talk with Grandma, you'll be able to show her pictures and home movies. If Grandma's a corporate executive, you can show her a marketing presentation, too."

Check out the piece. The man has put quite a lot of thought into the topic and puts forth some very good ideas. If you're interested, click on the 'read' link below for the full article.

dotmaciWeb is on the move to greener pastures and "anywhere" content publishing with the new iWeb 2, which will be bundled with the upcoming iLife '07 early next year.

So what's the deal with this "anywhere" content publishing feature?

Simply put, iWeb 2 allows you to publish online content - you guessed it - anywhere!

This new development will allow users to manage their iWeb page from any web browser. Although, the term "manage" here would be a bit limited, and would only encompass the functionalities of adding or deleting content. Well, limited as it may be, it's still managing, nonetheless.

As an added note, .Mac users get the perks with being able to update their online pages through their cell phones, paving the way for blog text and pictures to be linked to their iWeb site. From mobile to online, I'd say!

As another added note, for those who'd prefer to host their own sites somewhere else rather than on .Mac, iWeb 2 allows users to transfer the iWeb created content to certain websites like MySpace, in the same way that YouTube could be embedded in different sites.

As yet another added note (my, my, don't we have a lot of notes today?), iWeb 2 will support the creation of photo slideshows and film strips, and integration with iTunes, which will allow users to broadcast their songs online.

Sure, the MacBook and MacBook Pro looks professional and almost classic. Yet sometimes, you just want more color in your life and the Apple laptops' white or black just doesn't cut it. The French painter Pierre Bonard once said, "Color does not add a pleasant quality to design - it reinforces it" - so this must mean putting color in an already fashionable laptop won't be such a bad idea, right? If you answered yes, then you might want to take a look at Colorware's offering.

Colorware is offering the MacBook and MacBook Pro, with a deluge of colors to choose from. Offering a range of 24 colors (one less for the Mac Book Pros), Colorware's MacBooks and MacBook Pros are powered by Intel Core Duo Processor and has the iSight camera built-in. Other softwares included in Colorware's offerings are iLife '06, iWork '06, Front Row, Photo Booth, Comic Life, and OmniOutliner.

Of course, all these come with a price - a high price, I have to say. While the white 13" 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook sells for only $1,099, Colorware's version will make you $1,749 poorer. Colorware's 15" 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro sells at $2,649 (vs. the white one for $1,999). If you do have the money to burn and would like to own a different-colored Apple laptop, visit the Colorware site to see other offerings and to decide which color strikes your fancy.

iLifeGood news to iLife customers, Apple has released several software updates for iLife '06 applications like iDVD, iMovie, iWeb and iPhoto. iDVD 6.0.2 (5MB) update addresses issues with burning some 16:9 projects and improves overall stability. And now it allows you to use either a SuperDrive or compatible third-party DVD burner for your Hollywood-style DVDs.

Future filmmakers will love these updates for iMovie HD 6.0.2 (7MB). It addresses issues with Ken Burns rendering performance, scrubber bar editing performance theme image quality, PAL audio, and displaying iLife Sound Effects automatically in its iLife Media Browser. A 54.6MB installer is also available for those who want to upgrade their iMovie HD version 6.0 or 6.0.1 to a 6.0.2.

Better weblife equals iWeb 1.1 (88.8MB). Updates include comment support for blogs and podcasts (.Mac published sites only),blog search support (.Mac published sites only),usability improvements to themes and templates and image management fixes to improve site performance.

Updates to iPhoto 6.0.3 (13.9MB) addresses issues with the Photocasting of Smart Albums, sharing iPhoto libraries, and creating calendars and books. So whip out those photos you took on your honeymoon and share them with your loved ones in an instant.
