Okay, here's something nifty you can do: open the Localizable.strings file inside the iPhoto app bundle. You'll should see several interesting keys.

cllick on this to get a better view

Notice that the GPSMapURL is set to "http://maps.google.com/maps?maps?q=%f+%f", funky weird huh? The 6.0.5 iPhoto update contains new calendar, greeting card, and postcard themes for use with Apple print services. It should also include a variety of holiday card designs. Anyway, based on the pic above, Google is up to something with Apple.

Now upen the iPhoto's InfoPanel.nib file. And you'll see a hidden show button.

why is that show button there?

If you go through the iPhoto executable itself with a Hex Editor, you'll see around 70 references to GPS. Now, GPS fields in iPhoto isn't exactly news. What is news is the presence of Google Maps and that hidden Show button.

More on Javester, Exif tools, and that last interesting bit on iPhoto after the jump!

This pic is/was just a rumor...

Last week, we were all speculating about what kind of rabbit Steve Jobs would pull out of his hat during the recent Showtime conference. We thought it would be iPhone, half smartphone, half media player. But no. As it turned out, they gave us a sneak peek of their iTV.

But then, with the rolling out of the new iTunes 7, the folks over at MacShrine were looking over some of its resource files. And upon connecting their "iPhone" (Apple & Motorola's joint phone: ROKR, RAZR, and SLVR) an error message would pop-up:

"Some of the games in your iTunes library were not copied to the mobile phone [name] because you are not authorized to play them on this computer" and "iTunes cannot sync photos to the mobile phone [name] because your iPhoto Library needs updating. Open iPhoto to update your iPhoto Library."

Currently, the ROKR, RAZR, and SLVR are the closest stuff that Apple has to an "iPhone". But then, why would iTunes report such an error? It's as if the iTunes is looking for something (a feature maybe?) that the Motorola doesn't have. Maybe this hints at what they will come out with in the future? And what other thing that would be, except a possible iPhone?

iMacApple is on a mission to make a complete transition to the happy and reliable world of Intel processors, they will try to accomplish this by the end of 2006. Among the many now-Intel based Apple babies is the Apple iMac Core Dup 17-inch (which also has a cheaper, Education version). We earlier featured a review of the iMac Education variant which got favorable ratings amidst the downgrades it went through.

Now, the verdict is in for the  Apple iMac Core Duo 17-inch. As you can see, this baby is the bomb, aesthetically speaking. But now powered with Intel processors, a lot of people are expecting great things and improvements from this Apple contraptios. So with that, how did it fare in the review?

Well, according to the said review, Apple has a definite winner with this one. Faring well than other PowerPC and Intel-based Macs in business, media and general-use scenarios, the iMac Core Duo 17-inch is definitely not lagging behind in features and functions. It also mentioned that it's a good move that Apple stuck with the usual sexy design that Apple aficionados have grown to love and appreciate. It is a smooth operator too - runs quietly - with a hardware and operating system that are the most reliable around. The very plush and pretty screen is only a bonus to all that.

It is also praised for its built-in iSight, versatile all-in-one design, easy relocation for a desktop computer, and for being excellent for small workspaces (which we usually suffer from). But, every good machine has a mean bone too, nothing's all peach and roses in this world you know. But, the cons are obviously outweighed by the pros.

The not-so-good side of the iMac is its 8X SuperDrive which would be better had it been a 16X and the fact that it lagged in the iPhoto import speed test. So if you're in the market for a dependable and elegant-looking desktop computer, maybe you oughta consider the iMac Core Duo 17-inch, which has a price tag that ranges from $999-$1,300.

AppleIn 1995 I purchased a first-generation Apple Power PC 8100. At the time, I worked mostly with music and graphic files, and was certain that the 750 MB hard drive would serve me well for many years...

Today, I have a G4 Graphite model with two hard drives - the original 20 GB and an additional 80 GB. And they are fillin' up fast!

Now, a full hard drive isn't necessarily a bad thing... it means you've been happy and productive. You should be proud of yourself. On the other hand, files of all kinds are not getting any smaller, and frankly, its a pain offloading everything to zip drives and other media - or having to buy a new HD at a moment's notice.

We've rounded up eleven ways for you to give your hard drive a break, check them out in the Full Article!

The best way to organize, retrieve and edit your photos on your Mac is through iPhoto 6. It boasts of an array of features like a large storage capacity of up to 250,000 photos (which means that you can snap over a thousand photos per month for the next 20 years), full screen editing (that takes advantage of your Mac's wonderfully large and bright screen), one-click effects and printing out personalized calendars, greeting cards and books, which on this update has additional greeting and postcard themes for use with Apple print services. Print services are available in the U.S., Canada, Japan and selected European countries.

You can also use your iPhoto for photocasting, so long as you have your .Mac account and a Mac OS X version 10.4.4.

iPhoto Advanced EditingMacWorld has released details to a super secret mode which gives access to a couple new advanced editing tools in iPhoto.  You must have the latest version of iPhoto '06 for this to work, and even then it may not quite work out for you (it didn't when I tried).  The tools you'll get are advanced retouch and red-eye.  the results look to be subtle, but useful if you're into using those features.

So how does it work?  Well you've got to be in the iPhoto editing mode, and have either the Red eye tool or the Retouch tool selected.  Now hold down CTRL, CAPS LOCK, and 9 (ctrl + caps lock + 9).  There's no audible or visual recognition of the newly enabled mode.  But if you hit the TAB key, your cursor will change to one of those seen above.  According to MacWorld, it's smartest of you edit within the iPhoto window, and not pop out into a new window.  Otherwise you'll have to enable the new tools each time you open a new window into editing mode.

Who knows how they figured this one out.  Someone with a lot of time and imagination to combine those keys I guess.  I couldn't get it to work for me, but maybe you will.  Let us know what you think, and if you think Apple should turn it on as a full time feature set.

iLifeGood news to iLife customers, Apple has released several software updates for iLife '06 applications like iDVD, iMovie, iWeb and iPhoto. iDVD 6.0.2 (5MB) update addresses issues with burning some 16:9 projects and improves overall stability. And now it allows you to use either a SuperDrive or compatible third-party DVD burner for your Hollywood-style DVDs.

Future filmmakers will love these updates for iMovie HD 6.0.2 (7MB). It addresses issues with Ken Burns rendering performance, scrubber bar editing performance theme image quality, PAL audio, and displaying iLife Sound Effects automatically in its iLife Media Browser. A 54.6MB installer is also available for those who want to upgrade their iMovie HD version 6.0 or 6.0.1 to a 6.0.2.

Better weblife equals iWeb 1.1 (88.8MB). Updates include comment support for blogs and podcasts (.Mac published sites only),blog search support (.Mac published sites only),usability improvements to themes and templates and image management fixes to improve site performance.

Updates to iPhoto 6.0.3 (13.9MB) addresses issues with the Photocasting of Smart Albums, sharing iPhoto libraries, and creating calendars and books. So whip out those photos you took on your honeymoon and share them with your loved ones in an instant.
