One of the selling points of Apple's new Leopard is that it can work on older machines, and that Mac fans who are holding on to their legacy Power Macs can have a reason to rejoice once the Leopard OS gets released into the market. However, can Leopard really live up to its promise and run on an 8-year-old Power Mac G4 with AGP Graphics? Engadget tried to install the newest iteration of the OS X, and here's the verdict. To cut the long story short, Leopard DOES work on an 8-year-old Power Mac, using only 5.9GB of space upon installation (that's without all the extraneous stuff such as drivers, etc). The question now is, what are the Leopard applications that work on an old machine, and what doesn't? The new File Stacks and fans user interface worked, as well as Coverflow, Youtube, Quick Look, and Spaces and Expose. However, the machine choked on equally-important stuff such as DVD Player and Front Row. All in all, it was a decent performance on a fairly old machine, and gives people reason not to throw out their legacy machines... at least, not yet. |

Don't you just hate it when you're watching your media files and the titles are all wrong, and the information is whacked? It's far from organized and you can hardly do anything about it. Or do you?Lowell Stewart released Lostify v0.4.1 to help you. It's a metadata tagger for MP4 videos and is compatible with iTunes, the 5th-gen iPod video, and Front Row. This means that after tagging your video with Lostify, it'll show up clean in your iTunes, iPod, etc. The name of the program was born due to the developer's favorite show: "Lost". And when he ripped the season 1 DVD onto iTunes, the titles and categories didn't match with the season 2 he had bought from the iTunes Music Store. Hence, he wrote this program to lostify whatever other episodes he (and you) might have. Here's what's new:

Mobility is what the Apple Remote offers for those who live day-in and day-out with their Macs. The remote lets you do things even if you're 10 ft away from your Mac. But, like any gadget, it can only do so much -- unless some really cool software comes along and liberates you from its limitations. Now, imagine your Apple Remote integrated with any Mac - yep, any Mac - and with just IR receivers on USB G3, G4, G5 & the new Mac Pro. Also, imagine that you can import and export application profiles which you can share online. It's now possible with mira.
Basically, mira allows you to personalize the control of your Apple Remote. It's like "easy" made "easier". It comes bundled with over 40 profiles for popular programs which you can easily change according to your own settings. Where you used to only open Front Row, with mira you'll have a giant menu that you can view across the room. The software application allows us to control any program even without knowing how to create scripts. mira comes with a host of other features which you can check at Twisted Melon, but meanwhile you can check out some of the application's screenshots here. |

Apple Company is making things a bit easier for users of video iPod, MAC and PlayStation Portable (PSP) who want to amp their playlists. It does so by acknowledging a new shareware application from Stinkbot.com.Internet utility TubeSock grabs online YouTube Videos and damps them into your system. The software is no-hassle as it converts the videos on its own, choosing the best codecs and bitrates for each device. Those who don't have video iPod can also use TubeSock as it allows grab audio only option as well. And since it already uses MP3 format, loss in audio fidelity should not be a problem. Other features include Preview Playback, Safari and Firefox integration, and Front Row compatible. Below, a trial version is available for download that converts the first 30 seconds only. Registration and payment for the product is $15. Download: [TubeSock] |

EyeTV 2.2.2, which is bundled with the new EyeTV for DTT stick, will feature a new Full Screen Menu. The Full Screen Menu allows users to watch and record television shows on a Mac as well as browse Front Row. EyeTV works with the Apple remote (although it comes with its own clicker). It is also compatible with other remotes like the ATI Remote Wonder after simple programming using keyboard navigation. This Full Screen Menu, now a standard feature of EyeTV software, will work with all EyeTV 2 and higher software. EyeTV 2.2.2 is designed to work with EyeTV for DTT. EyeTV for DTT features include:

It was pretty cool of Apple to include a remote control in the latest Macs. This remote allows you to control Front Row and other Apple applications, but unfortunately, apart from that, it can't do much of anything else. But Remote Buddy from IOSpirit, squeezes every last ounce of juice from your remote. It basically emulates functions of a keyboard and mouse, eject CDs, terminate applications and much more. It also compensates for Front Row's current lack of support for anything related to television, because it allows you to activate or deactivate Front Row and then launch EyeTV 2. Now you can watch live or recorded video. Every one of these features are made possible because of behaviours or specialized plugins for the Remote Buddy. Already included with Remote Buddy are Behaviours for iTunes, Keynote 3, PowerPoint, Photo Booth, QuickTime Player, EyeTV 2, DVD Player, VLC Media Player and Real Player. Since they provide source code for developers and also continue to work on new Behaviours themselves, expect a lot more to come. It was recently priced at Â?14.99 but it is now down to Â?9.99 ($ 12.55). All purchasers of version 1.0 will receive all V1.x updates for free! |

We earlier mentioned a Flickr group dedicated Cats who love Macs, now here is another evidence that cats and macs are an almost perfect match. This little kitty is very lucky, it arguably has the most expensive cat toy. In this clip, you could see a kitten playing with a Mac while Front row is running. Yes, yes...the little fella is sooo cute, but think of all the scratches that the screen has now. One thing is for sure though, that is one very kind cat owner for letting him/her play with his Mac like that.
