Steve Jobs' grave: a parody of things to come perhaps? - Image 1In what seems to be an amusing parody to the proverbial Apple god, this image was posted by user donatreides over at Flickr depicting the grave of Steve Jobs in the form of an iPod.

The picture evoked a stream of humorous comments when it was first posted and still continues to illicit much amusement. Though he has been reported with notable health problems over the past few years, this puts into perspective a lighter side of what eventually lies in store for everyone someday.

Even Steve Jobs had a thing or two to say about his life and eventual death someday in his commencement address last June:

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

What more can we say but, "Very well said Steve, now where's that new iPod scheduled for the holiday season?"

The iPhone - Image 1Seems like the iPhone has acquired quite a following. It has even attracted the intense focus of more than 300 hackers who have gathered last weekend in San Francisco.

The iPhone was released last June 29 and since then has become so popular that a recent survey found it more popular than cars. A device that combines the iPod music player with a mobile phone that allows internet surfing, the iPhone is naturally the source of a lot of people's interests, even those who want to maximize its potential even if they go through unconventional means. Like a weekend camp designed for hacking.

In an effort to get what Apple won't give them, 300 (plus) brave hackers set out to find the limits and capabilities of the iPhone. Organized by Chris Messina, the iPhoneDevCamp was held in a borrowed office complete with its own message board projected on a big screen. The event was not sponsored by Apple and efforts by Adobe to make participants sign nondisclosure agreements were met with a quick boot.

Hackers at the camp have produced a number of unusual and interesting results. One found a way to make iPhones yell out like Chewbacca when dropped. Another figured out how to flip through the top 10 photos on Flickr with the touch of a finger. A useful program also went out to make the iPhone function as a baby monitor. One program that got some hype allowed customized home pages with iPhone icons. "For example, a user can put an icon for the cable station CNN on their home page if they want to go to the site every time they turn the iPhone on."

By the end of the camp, 45 new programs for the iPhone were demonstrated, not including those that the more secretive programmers have chosen to develop by themselves. Perhaps we may yet see more things spark in the future from the endeavors of the 300. We should also see more from the developers of the iPhone themselves and third party developers now that the public has shown so much interest in it.

iPhone sighting - Image 1

Somebody was lucky enough to take a shot of someone who's holding what looks suspiciously like the much-awaited iPhone - and to think it hasn't (officially) launched yet. This picture was taken in a Caltrain, well-known for being used by Apple employees on their way to work.

If it's really the iPhone, then that guy must be an Apple employee. He should have been more careful in taking that baby out in public lest he wants Apple fanboys surrounding him like ants on honey. Even the existence of this picture may possibly get him into trouble at work.

Generating so much buzz even before its launch date, the iPhone is scheduled to be released in public in June 29.

iPod amnesty bin - Image 1

Sometimes messages need to be sent to the other camp to trigger some kind of response or to psyche out the opposition. Microsoft's Zune people earlier released an image of their "iPod Amnesty Bin" and had it find its way to Flickr. The weird picture drew bemused reactions from readers there.

Message sent, though no body's quite sure if it means anything at all. The only thing we all can be sure of is that the boys in green probably spent a bundle on those iPods. Either that or they already own iPods and placed them in the bin as props or something.

We're really not sure what to make of all this, especially the "bite me" message. It's just plain weird when you consider that professionals are behind this. Help us figure out the mysteries by posting your comments.

iPhone shots - Image 1 iPhone shots - Image 2

Mobile Guerrilla recently found a couple of images on Flickr by way of Google. These images were supposedly taken with the Apple iPhone. The product is still yet to be released by the Apple Corporation, so these must either have been taken by an Apple employee or they could be downright fake. Anyway, these are the supposed specifics of the shot:

Camera: Apple iPhone
Aperture: f/2.8
Orientation: Rotated 90 degrees clockwise
Date and Time: 2007:04:21 10:23:45
Color Space: sRGB
Tag::EXIF::0xA500: 11/5
Compression: JPEG
Image Width: 1600 pixels
Image Height: 1200 pixels

Considering that the Apple iPhone should only have a 2mp cam, the first shot looks good. The second one is pretty bad. Makes us wonder if they were taken with the same camera. If there's any truth at all about these shots being from the iPhone, we hope the first shot shows its true capability.

We earlier mentioned a Flickr group dedicated Cats who love Macs, now here is another evidence that cats and macs are an almost perfect match. This little kitty is very lucky, it arguably has the most expensive cat toy. In this clip, you could see a kitten playing with a Mac while Front row is running. Yes, yes...the little fella is sooo cute, but think of all the scratches that the screen has now. One thing is for sure though, that is one very kind cat owner for letting him/her play with his Mac like that.

iMac Floats

Apple contraptions are often praised not only because of its technological capabilities but also because of its aesthetic factors. This one looks good, a Flickr user has mounted her iMac G5 on an adjustable arm that gave the Apple baby a "floating" effect. Not only is it very good to look at, it is also quite practical because it occupies lesser space therefore enabling the user to work in an uncluttered atmosphere.

Apple is all about innovation, it is nice to see that that innovative thinking also affects their consumers.

Well after a day full of events, all due to the release of the Boot Camp software which allows users to run XP on Intel Macs, it seems that one faithful individual by the name Speedeye has gone about taking pictures for us to gaze at showing the processes that Boot Camp takes you through. The screens were all sourced from Flickr, and we've compiled about 10 of our favorite screens from the 34 for you to have a look at. They all show an individual step in the process, from creating partitions to actually running Windows Update in XP. Enjoy.
