Unreal TournamentWilliam Restemeyer, the brains behind Resteware, is a very big fan of Unreal Tournament 2004 and this enthusiasm has lead him to make utilities for the game like UT2004Grabber V.2 and UT2004Sync V.2. UT2004Grabber V.2 allows you to download maps on your LAN and play Unreal Tournament even if you're offline. It automatically copies maps, textures, static meshes, music, sounds from your cache into your copy of Unreal Tournament 2004.

Features:
  • No longer requires your (local) copy of UT 2004 to be in your /Applications folder.
  • It cleans out your cache after it has copied new objects into your game.
  • Now reports its progress in a window as it's running.
  • Minor bug fixes.
And to compliment UT2004Grabber, he also gives us UT2004Sync V.2. This utility quickly syncs up everything you've downloaded to your main game.

Features:
  • No longer requires Unreal Tournament 2004 to be in your /Applications folder.
  • Now reports its progress in a window as it runs.
  • Minor bug fixes.
Both of these utilities are now Universal Binaries. All you need is a Mac running Unreal Tournament 2004 with Mac OS X.

HeatIt is not unknown to us that the MacBook has had some complaints from consumers because of some heating issues. Apple initially addressed these issues by releasing the SMC Firmware Update that will supposedly end your heating woes. Although a lot of consumers were a little bit confused because of the lack of information given by Apple, there have also been a lot of claims, that it indeed made the fans work as how they ought to work.

Now, Apple released another SMC Firmware Update, this time exclusive to the MacBook Pro 17-inch. Once you install this update in the /Applications/Utilities folder it will launch automatically after restart, and adjust fan behavior in your MacBook. This update requires Mac OS X 10.4.6.

dogcowRemember this odd little creature?

It used to show up in the "Page Orientation" dialogue whenever you went to print anything on your Mac. Because of its rather indeterminate appearance - contained both bovine and canine characteristics - it was dubbed the "dogcow"...

And now, it seems to be making noises in some peoples' MacBooks - specifically, from the fan.

As you know, the fan kicks on and off in its unending job of keeping the CPU from overheating. Some users have reported a "moo-ing" sound emanating from the mechanism whenever it performs its task. One user took his MacBook to an Apple service center only to be told, "It's normal. A fan will do what it needs to do to keep the machine cool."

DUH...

Apparently, the MacBook Pro also had this problem, which disappeared when the fan unit was replaced. Obviously, a MacBook that goes "moo" is NOT normal.

Your best bet to exorcise the dogcow...? Call AppleCare.
