NES.app v1.2.1 - speed, sound improvements added - Image 1If you've been following  NES.app revisions, then you might like to know that there's another minor revision to the Nintendo Entertainment System emulator for your iPhone. Improved compatibility from version 1.2.0 has just been backed by improvements to speed and sound synchronization, as well as a patched-up scanline processing.

Of course, the program is still a work in progress, and coder nervegas has other issues to sort through in the application, including the broken PPU scrolling code in the InfoNES Core. The developer, together with nightwatch, bwhitman, and dshadow, has revamped the core in other aspects, however.

The download has been provided below for version 1.2.1, although we'd like to remind interested readers to read through the bundled documentation before using the application.

iPhone NES.app v0.99.02: controller fixes and optimization implemented - Image 1Homebrew developers nervegas, dshadow, and the rest of the NES.app team have been pretty busy lately. In case you haven't heard yet, they just rolled out another update on their program which fixes some of the minor issues with the virtual control pad.

If you're not familiar with this application, it's essentially a NES emulator for the iPhone based on pNesX. The most recent update, NES.app v0.99.02, fixes the bug when sliding your finger from the virtual direction pad to the select or start buttons would cause it to keep registering movement.

In addition to this, the corners of the pad have been expanded, making the controller far more responsive than before. If you've been using a previous version, you may want to upgrade to the latest version for the fixes and improvements.

If you decide to do so, be sure to go over the Readme document included with the download package to avoid any problems with installation.

iPhone NES.app v0.99.0: Ready for prime-time - Image 1

If you're an iPhone owner and a fan of 8-bit games, there is no reason for you not to be using the NES.app. This handy application is an emulator which lets you enjoy various NES games on your beloved phone.

NES.app v0.99.0 has quite a few changes that's very attractive to those already using a previous version. The user interface has been polished and the controls have already been "perfected" (at least according to the change log submitted by the developers). They noted that this program is now "ready for prime-time," and after seeing the application we're inclined to agree with them on that statement.

Homebrew developers dshadow, nervegas and the rest of the team really did a great job with this release. If you plan on downloading and trying this program out, be sure to go over the entire readme file to avoid any problems.

Full screen portrait mode of NES.app v0.58 for Apple's iPhone - Image 1 Full screen portrait mode of NES.app v0.58 for Apple's iPhone - Image 2

Barely half a week has gone by since our last update from homebrew developers nervegas, dshadow and the rest of their team regarding their NES.app emulator for Apple's iPhone. For those nostalgic about the good old days of 8-bit generation games, you can now relive them with this homebrew emulator.

Notable changes to NES.app version 0.58 since the last version center mainly on the saving processes of the application. Also, an "Enlarge Screen" option for portrait mode has been added as well as other minor tweaks and bug fixes. The readme file on their website also went into the specifics on the "Enlarge Screen" option available in portrait mode. Here's a short explanation from the readme:

Using the enlarged screen option, you can zoom in on your favorite game as close to "full screen" as the NES aspect ratio will allow. NOTE: Using the enlarged screen mode slows down the display a bit, so it is recommended that you bump your FrameSkip by one more if using it.

As always, we suggest that you go over the complete readme before installing NES.app. If you want to check out the changelog since the last release, click the Full article link below.
