Apple has released QuickTime 7.4.1 for users of Mac OS X 10.4.9 Tiger, Mac OS X 10. 3.9 Panther, Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, Windows XP SP2, and Windows Vista. This security update patches a vulnerability that could cause arbitrary code execution or an unexpected termination of the application when visiting a malicious website. Props to Apple's latest personal computer, the Mac OS X Leopard, for its successful debut in Japan last month.

Though Apple sales in 2007 seemed progressively slow at first, things finally looked up when the Leopard stepped into the limelight. Due to the Leopard's very successful sales in the Japanese market, Apple now dominates the OS-only Japanese demographic.

Now, here's something you don't see everyday - one of the fastest rated laptops for this year by PC World is the Apple Macbook Pro 17"...running on a Windows Vista Premium OS.

The the test was undertaken using a combination of the WorldBench 6 Tests, at which the MacBook Pro rated an 88, and by running two-graphics intensive games: Far Cry, and Doom 3.

The Apple machine passed the Doom 3 test with flying colors, thanks in part to its new nVidia GeForce 8600M GT card, which also allowed it to play Far Cry at a staggering 141 frames per second. The video card is bolstered by a 2.4-GHz Core 2 Duo T7700 CPU, 4GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive. This added up to a machine that the testers say was also light for its screen size - 6.6 pounds, although at the loss of a considerable bit of battery life - 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Computer solutions providers have reported that preorders for the Apple's Mac OS X Leopard have doubled, as compared to the release of the previous OS Tiger. The supposed culprit? Overall dissatisfication of the consumers over Windows Vista.

"More than anything, it has to do with the biggest growth coming from 'switchers' - people switching from the Windows platform," said Chirs Gore, a marketing director for Macforce, an Apple specialist.

The release of Apple Leopard was actually scheduled for last Spring, but was pushed back to this month to make way for the iPhone. Computer suppliers said that the delay didn't affect the expected sales of the Mac OS, however.

Other suppliers reported having a hard time ordering stocks of Leopard, while the rest of the solution providers are excited about the unveiling of Apple's newest OS, with some even giving out computer mice covered in leopard skin-prints.

Version 7.2 of Apple's iTunes software has finally been released. This new version also supports Windows Vista, so those of you who don't run a Mac OS at home but have an iPod can still use it.

Perhaps the hottest feature in this new iTunes version is added support for "iTunes Plus", Apple's new DRM-free offerings. These DRM-free tracks cost an extra 30 cents but also boast higher-quality encoding. DRM-free tracks will start popping up on the iTunes Store today, if they haven't already.

Users will also be able to upgrade their previous iTunes Store purchases to their DRM-free versions as they became available. The installer (available for XP, Vista and Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later) can be downloaded for free by clicking on the "via" link below.

We just love them witty Mac Ads, don't you? Well we've got three more of them today, and this one only ups the ante on Apple's attacks against the Windows - particularly Windows Vista - albeit in a wholesome way, still.

The first ad is entitled "Party is Over" and it's got the PC guy complaining about the arrival of the Vista. Supposedly, the launch of Vista is one to celebrate about, but with all the accompanying hassle of having to upgrade and change peripherals and whatnots, it just becomes too tedious to enjoy at the end of the day.

Then we have the "Genius" ad, where they added in the Genius character. She basically personifies the Mac Genius housed in every Apple store that will tell you everything you need to know and more.

The last one, "Choose A Vista", has got to be my favorite among this bunch. PC introduces his 'spin-the-wheel' game for the Vista, since there's six versions of the OS. So, in order for him to choose which upgrade he'll be choosing, he puts it on the fate of the wheel.

All you Apple fans waiting for the OS X Leopard will have to sit down and wait some more, but if you're itching for that new OS experience and it's causing you to lose sleep, why not try Windows Vista for now to cool your rods?

The new Microsoft Windows incarnation is compatible with Apple hardware, which means you can split your hard drive to accommodate both. For users crazy about speed and tweaking, the typical MacBook Pro hard drive with 80GB of space may not be enough, so the guys at Extreme Tech decided to try and upgrade the disk to accommodate both systems at optimum performance levels.

What they did was not like anything you'd do with the regular MacBook which requires only screwing the disk loose and popping in a new one. With the Pro, you'd have to really dig in and void your warranty. Extreme Tech took a Seagate 7200 hard drive and replaced the Mac 5200. The new hard drive runs much faster because of the substantial RPM increase. It has 160GB of space, which should be enough for just about anyone. The launch of the loudly-trumpeted Windows Vista and the relative market success that followed it did little, if any, damage to the sales performance of Apple computers, says a report by Apple Insider.

Apple sales are down by a mere tenth of a point, which is quite a feat considering that many analysts assumed a market storm by the new Microsoft operating system. The storm has passed and Apple still stands. The Mac's 30 percent annual growth was unaffected this year as it remained at a solid 30 percent.

Apple's computer hardware department is in the US top five of dealers, only slightly behind market leaders Dell and Hewlett-Packard. It faces some tough competition, though, as Southeast-Asian manufacturers Lenovo, Acer and Toshiba also posted strong shipment figures.

"Microsoft's official consumer launch of Vista in January, [sic] had very limited impact on overall worldwide shipment demand on a quarterly basis," says research firm Gartner.

Apple is set to release its own next-generation operating system called Mac OS X Leopard edition, which it claims is easily superior to the Windows Vista. The Leopard is slated to arrive late this year.
