Apple press invite - Image 1Apparently, the not-so-secret organization known as Apple is passing out private invites to various member of the UK press, asking them to join them on the 18th at the Apple Store at Regent Street in London. As you can see in the image (right), it details the directions on how to reach the appointed meeting place with the RSVP email address and phone number blanked out for privacy measures.

Many people are speculating what exactly this invite entails for the European community. The most common of these are the much awaited release of the UK/European release of the iPhone. This coincides with the fact that the Apple Store on Regent Street is, in fact, the biggest Apple Store in the world and would be the most appropriate place for such a grand unveiling. There was even word of some boxes being kept under lock and key at the store.

Other more unlikely theories include a possible deal with BBC regarding some of their shows being turned over to the iTunes store or even the much overdue arrival of the Beatles classics being made available on the iTunes store.

No one knows for sure exactly why "mum is no longer the word," but we'll have to wait until the aforementioned event comes to pass and see what Apple has in store for their European customers. Keep yourselves in touch as we'll deliver any more updates on the matter as soon as we get them.

Paul McCartney to debut album on iTunes - Image 1Apple's online store iTunes is still lacking one important thing: The Beatles.

As you are all aware, rumors have been going around since time immemorial that the much-loved band will be making its presence felt there. The last one of which was the alleged Valentine's Day gift to fans but it's already May and no "Blackbird" or "Norwegian Wood" made its way to the store.

Anyway, hopes are running high once more as unconfirmed reports state that Paul McCartney's latest album will be available on iTunes as a pre-order next week. Aside from this, the reports added that the Rockstar plans to make his entire back catalog available soon as well.

So what does this has to do with The Beatles aside from the obvious fact that McCartney belonged to that group? Back in April, computer company Apple Corporation and British music label Apple Inc. had already come to terms regarding the use of trademarks whenever necessary.

The settlement stated that the Cupertino-based company can now use the word "Apple" on its products and iconography. Likewise, the music label company is now allowing Apple Corporation to use digitalized content.

Apple - Image 1In a move to have an amicable settlement between iPod maker Apple Corporation and British music label Apple Inc, the two companies met as equals and fostered a deal which would pave the way for the gadget company to use trademarks when necessary.

The two firms have been embroiled in a dispute for years now and have recently come to terms. Reports say that under the new deal, the California company can now legally use the word "Apple" on its products and iconography whenever needed.

Apple Inc, which handles the rights for proprietary Beatles music, has apparently allowed Apple corporation to use and peddle the digitalized content on its online music store iTunes.

The acts could mean a shift of custodianship as far as the Beatles music is concerned as the Atlantic counterparts sealed the deal through several meetings involving the US Patents and Trademarks Office and lawyer Thomas La Perle. Monetary details on the settlement has not been publicly disclosed so far.

aww, they'll share the iPhone name.... - Image 1Apple and iPhone trademark">Cisco may have had their share of mudslinging sessions and lawsuits, but in the end, they still got along. Cisco Systems Inc. and Apple Inc. ended their dispute and agreed to share the iPhone brand and Cisco's lawsuit for trademark infringement was also dismissed. Going over the official Apple website, here's what we found out:

Cisco and Apple today announced that they have resolved their dispute involving the "iPhone" trademark. Under the agreement, both companies are free to use the "iPhone" trademark on their products throughout the world.

Both companies acknowledge the trademark ownership rights that have been granted, and each side will dismiss any pending actions regarding the trademark. In addition, Cisco and Apple will explore opportunities for interoperability in the areas of security, and consumer and enterprise communications. Other terms of the agreement are confidential.

With the six-week dispute settled, Apple is now on-track to start selling its iPhone in June. The agreement came a few weeks after Apple ended a long litigation with the Beatles over rights to use the Apple name and logo.

The Beatles and the controversial appleThis one's official guys: Apple (as in Steve Jobs Apple) and Apple Corps (The Beatles' Apple) has finally settled on an agreement regarding the use of the name "Apple" and apple logos.

According to Apple Insider, the new agreement states that Jobs' Apple will own all Apple-related trademarks and will license some of those trademarks back to Apple Corps for continued use. This puts the trademark lawsuit between the two Apples to end but not without legal consequences of course.

Both parties will have to pay certain legal costs, but Apple will be able to continue using its name and logos on iTunes. Steve Jobs says,

We love the Beatles, and it has been painful being at odds with them over these trademarks. It feels great to resolve this in a positive manner, and in a way that should remove the potential of further disagreements in the future.

Further terms of settlement weren't disclosed, but if the two Apples will continue to see each other eye to eye, there's a huge probability that Beatles songs will show up on iTunes. Man, this Apple vs. Apple case has been going on for way too long now, we heard Adam & Eve's apple are throwing hissy fits because the companies' apples are more popular now. Kidding aside, it's nice to know that they've finally settled this long-running matter. So, all together now, "..all you need is love...pamparam papam..."

The BeatlesA few months back, we mentioned that The Beatles' songs are close to making their way on Apple iTunes. Fast forward to the present and there are still no Beatles tunes in iTunes, but since the iPhone has already been revealed and some people are running low on Apple rumors, the Beatles-iTunes deal is once revived.

This new rendition of the Beatles-iTunes rumor says that Beatles songs are going to be available in iTunes as soon as February 14, Valentine's Day of this year. Citing "unnamed sources", a popular Beatles fan website reports that it is most likely that the group's latest album, Love, will be made available through iTunes.

Hmmm, perhaps Steve Jobs playing "Lovely Rita" while introducing the iPhone also added fire to this speculation. Oh well, we guess we'll know if this is true come Valentine's Day.

Beatles on the iPodFirst of all, I just have to say...OH.MY.GOD. No wait, make that oh.my.effing.god! Can this be true? The Beatles are finally gonna have their songs on iTunes store after the whole Apple vs. Apple fiasco?

And not only that, Apple (as in the computer company) is allegedly in negotiation with Britain's EMI group. Apple wants to gain them rights to come out with a Beatles edition iPod, much like the U2-inspired edition that Apple currently has.

As we told you guys in an earlier article, The Beatles remains as one of the very few bands that haven't taken a bite of Steve Jobs' apple. Bob Seger and Metallica have already given in, and so has the Red Hot Chili Peppers. To date, iPod users have resorted to downloading their fave Beatles tunes off Limewire or other download services. Is all that about to change now?

Being a Beatlemaniac myself, I couldn't be more psyched about this but then again, these are all still mere speculation. And when Apple was contacted regarding the matter, the company's spokesman merely said that the company does not comment on "rumor and speculation."

But the latest buzz is that Apple is "close" to reaching an agreement with EMI to become The Beatles' exclusive online music store for a limited window of time. Oh, and that's not all, Apple is also said to be wooing EMI to let them use a a Beatles song for a company ad. Trivia: Nike was the only company to ever have used a Beatles song for an ad - "Revolution" - back in 1987, for which the company was sued by the Fab Four.

During that whole controversy, the Beatles was reported to have commented that they "don't sing jingles to peddle sneakers, beer, pantyhose, or anything else." Perhaps mp3 players then? Hahaha. I dunno 'bout the rest of you guys, but if Apple does come out with a Beatles-edition iPod, not even George and John's rise from the grave will stop me from getting one.

Hillary ClintonLook who has an iPod now?! Apparently, Former First Lady, now New York Senator, and future presidential candidate(?) Hillary Rodham Clinton, has joined the portable music generation and is now sporting her very own iPod. So just what kind of music perks up the mood of the good Senator?

Songs from Clinton's youth such as Aretha Franklin's "Respect", the Beatles' "Hey Jude", and the Eagle's "Take it to the Limit" could be found in her iPod. The 1000+ collection is mostly made up of motown tunes, classical music, and the Rolling Stones' tracks. When asked when is her favorite time to listen to her baby, she said that she often listens to it when she's following up paperwork from home.

She also said that she received the popular iPod as a birthday gift from her husband, Former U.S. President Bill Clinton.
