iPhone and iPod Touch homebrew developer ZodTTD has released a MAME
arcade emulator for iPhone and iPod Touch devices running on firmware
2.x. Right now, it supports a
whopping 2,000-plus games ranging from the 70s to the present, although
it's worth noting that not every rom may work with mame4iPhone. More in the full article. |

Apple's new hobby is being tailed by other hobbies, and the iPhone might be more the gaming platform than Apple would have originally conceptualized. A search at Google Code, a project site not very different from SourceForge, revealed a project entitled "iphone-sdl-mame," which was created to port SDL MAME to the iPhone.
MAME, or Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator, provides a machine the capability of emulating arcade game hardware using just software. It has been ported to several platforms already, be it proprietary or open platforms. Personal computers are a favorite target platform, but even consoles have had their share of MAME ports. But now, it appears even the multi-capable iPhone will get to emulate arcade games, although issues of control interfacing and performance will undoubtedly come to mind. Not to worry, however: the project hasn't touched that stage yet, and the MAME prototype is still 'coming out of its shell' - in a manner of speaking. As of press time, only kasiersoze staffs the project. Here's to hoping other MAME encoders appear from the Internet undergrowth and lend a helping hand. |

Reading some comments about our report on Dago^WATT's Prometeus application for Mac users, we feel the clamor for more Mac-friendly PSP applications. Now, it seems that we aren't the only ones feeling that, because apparently, some developers are also trying their best to dish out Mac-friendly PSP applications. One of those devs is b8a.The homebrew applications developer has recently released MacX_romcnv. From the name alone, you may already know that this is another Mac application for the PSP. But just to make everything crystal clear, this is an application for Mac OS X that allows you to convert MAME compatible NEOGEO and CPS2 ROMs for use with NJ's MVSPSP and CPS2PSP arcade emulators for the PSP. Cool, right? Basically, it is a port of fellow homebrew dev NJ's original converters, which is made to run for Windows. b8a adds that "this application is only for use with ROM images for games that you legally and legitimately own." He also adds that he thoroughly tested it on a PowerPC 10.3.9 and he had also tested it with a few games, so your feedback would be very much appreciated. Being the thorough developer that he is, the readme file that comes with the download holds all the instructions on how to use it. So you better read up, ok? Download: [MacX_romcnv] |
