If you're annoyed with having to remove your iPod's case each and every time you want to connect your iPod to different docks, then we've found this new item that should end all those troubles. It seems that SendStation, the guys who made the earBuddy and the PocketDock, have come up with a new product called the Dock Extender. The Dock Extender simply is what its name states. It lets you use your iPod and iPhone with iPod speaker systems, docking stations, FM transmitters, and voice recorders, without the need for removing your covers and cases. So long as your case has an opening for iPod Dock connection, this will automatically extend the dock connector, enabling you to use your iPod as you please. There's no price yet, but it's scheduled for a March 2007 release, so keep your eyes peeled and keep checking QJ for more of this fun swag. Enjoy! |

The newly unveiled iPhone may be a tad too heavy on the pocket if you're an average consumer. But if you want an iPhone-like contraption right now for a much cheaper price, then this accessory may just be the thing you're looking for. Mavizen MyBlu is a bluetooth contraption that connects your iPod to your mobile phone wirelessly. Its controls connect you to your trusty iPod thanks to the standard music player buttons. When you get a call, it will automatically pause the song to let you answer it. Pretty basic for a bluetooth accessory right? Well, not really. With this one your iPod would display the caller ID so as you do not need to check your mobile to know who's calling. Rejecting and answering calls could be done with a press of a button and a mic is also built in. Other features include:

If you think that North Americans are the only ones basking on their newly declared rights, the Brits are also treading the same happy road. Due to insistent public demand, UK's Office of Communications or Ofcom is legalizing the use of FM transmitters that allow mp3 players and iPods to play through car radios. The use of accessories like Griffin's iTrip was banned in the United Kingdom as their transmissions can interfere with the broadcasts of legal radio stations. We have already mentioned in our earlier report that the ban was based on the Wireless Telegraph Act of 1949 which basically forbids the use of radio equipment without a license. In spite of the ban, these accessories have been widely available online. Starting December 8, Brits could legally use certain FM transmitters, which can be tuned to spare frequencies. But many devices on the market will still be illegal, as they didn't meet the required technical specifications and could interfere with radio broadcasts. All approved devices will carry a CE mark which implies the approval for sale in the European Union. Ofcom will also lift the need for a license to use Citizens' Band radio. |

So there's this Sirius-Apple partnership rumor that's been spreading. What's it based on? Well, perhaps this is the probable reason for that rumor to er... "break." - Apple has recently filed a patent application for a method of saving media from various sources for later purchase. It's actually a pretty innovative method for grabbing snippets of audio, identifying the song/track and allowing the user to purchase that song. The site Orbitcast, claims that the patent is the most solid information to date that Apple might be considering integration with satellite radio. They add that this is not an exclusive relationship with satellite radio, but rather a method for Apple to get around the Â?song discoveryÂ? roadblock that is inherent with the iPod. This technology can allow a listener to tune into a wireless signal, say FM radio, or digital radio, using either a wireless card or an accessory that the iPod can recognize. Apple specifically stated in the document that we've sourced below that the wireless signal could be Â?AM/FM radio, satellite radio, WiFi.Â? This tech could prove to be a boon to the iPod as it allows the iPod user to Â?discoverÂ? music while in a car. Something that AM/FM radios have been providing to users for decades now. What makes satellite radio shine compared to AM/FM? Well, satellite radio allows not only provides the audio for the iPod to "consume" - but also the associated metadata is already encoded in - making it easier to identify the song and give the listener a purchase option. The capability to buy songs the moment you hear them? Nice. |

Truth be told, when we first heard of the BluPod, the first thought that entered our minds was, "It came true!" As it turned out, we were wrong. No biggie, though, since the BluPod is still a very welcome addition to the huge catalog of iPod accessories. Here's what it does: when a BluPod is connected to your iPod, it allows you to check Bluetooth phone calls on your iPod's screen. It automatically lowers your iPod's music or video volume to a point where you can take a call and talk to the other person on the line. The BluPod also has the capacity to pick up FM signals, turning your iPod into an FM radio. The BluPod, from Zenocom, was first presented at IFA 2006 in Berlin, Germany. No information regarding availability and price has been released yet, so stay tuned for those here on QJ. |

Nope, that's not an '80s boombox accessory for your iPod (although such a thing would be way cool). That thing to the right of this block of text, the one that looks like a cassette deck, is the HouseParty 24/7, Gear4's new speaker system for apple's iPod. Now, we've covered a lot of iPod speaker systems here on QJ since we first started, and we guess you guys have seen quite a lot of these newfangled iPod accessories yourselves. So maybe you're asking yourself, "What's so special about this thing, then?" Well, for one, it's a 2.1 stereo speaker system featuring two two-inch six-watt magnetic shielded speakers and an ActiveBass 2.1T twelve-watt sub-woofer. This thing'll keep you and your neighbors up til the morning. So, okay, maybe now you're saying, "So? A lot of speaker systems have more output than that." Yeah, but although those speakers may be able to keep you up longer than the HouseParty 24/7 can, can they wake you up after you collapse from exhaustion? Yes folks, the HouseParty 24/7 has a built-in alarm clock. Set your alarm and when it kicks in, the HouseParty 24/7 bursts into radio life. Yep, it's also got AM/FM radio with 5 preset stations and a snooze mode between 5 and 20 minutes. Aside from the alarm clock and the radio, the speakers also come with a three-stage dimmer LCD screen and a 16-function remote control allowing direct access to your iPod's menus. Getting interested? Luckily, the HouseParty 24/7 is available now. It's available in sexy black or cool white and will set you back £99.99 (around $190 US). |

There's already a glut of accessories for Apple's iPod floating around in the sea of consumer consciousness out there, so what's the big deal about another new speaker system? Well, nothing much. It's just that this particular one has got to be one of the more weird-named iPod accessories ever. The i-Steroid is a new range of iPod speaker systems from Sonic Gear. The iPod-like wooden enclosure houses a unique 2.1 speaker system with a Vacuum Valve Amplifier. And just so there are no doubts that it's using old-school valve amplification, Sonic Gear designed the enclosure so you can actually see the vacuum valve. These babies come bundled with Sonic Gear's U100 iPod universal dock colored to match the main unit and a matching infra-red remote control. Right now, Sonic Gear has three models out: The i-Steroid 1, the i-Steroid 1FM, and the i-Steroid 2. The only difference between the i-Steroid 1 and i-Steroid 2 is that the latter packs a bit more punch than the former. The i-Steroid 1 has an output of 28 watts while the i-Steroid 2 has an output of 50 watts. The i-Steroid 1FM, on the other hand, has a built-in FM reception circuit with a precision dial channel scanner. It has the same output as the i-Steroid 1. All three models are available in black or white. |

The funky musical memorabilia from the 50's/60's era known as the jukebox has just become funkier and hyped up with iPod. You can now play and view whatever's in your iPod in this Jukebox Station equipped with amplifiers and a 5-speaker system which produce quality sounds to let you listen to your music loud and proud, without the sound of skipping CDs.
However, don't put another dime in the jukebox just yet because...well, you don't have to! Gone are the days of dime-dropping to listen to the songs in the box. The JukeBox Station is operated with an IR remote control so you can set the volume and select the songs you want to listen to from across the room. All you need is your iPod dock connector and you're ready to go. Use your Universal Dock to plug your iPod in the JukeBox station and listen to up to 10,000 songs which are loaded in your iPod. Another cool thing about it is that the JukeBox Station has an LED Lighting System thus giving it a more vintage touch. The JukeBox Station has a Wood Enclosure Jukebox Style 2.1 Stereo System and can also access FM/AM radio stations. It's a meter tall, making it perfect for your game or music room. It also comes with a 17-function IR Remote Control, which allows you to select songs and set the volume from across the room. The JukeBox Station has RCA Input and RCA Video Output Jacks which you can use to connect to your TV set to view photos and videos. If you want to listen to your music real LOUD and not have the neighbors sue you for disturbing the peace, the JukeBox Station also has 3.5mm mini-jack input where you can plug in your headphones. Cool, huh? Unfortunately, iPod fanatics and vintage ravers would have to wait 'til October 2 of this year to get a hold of the JukeBox Station, which will be exclusively distributed by Pacific Rim Technologies in North America. You can also read our article on how to view videos and photos from your iPod on to your TV. |

Here's another one of those nifty little gadgets that adds even more functionality to your portable devices. Japanese manufacturer Princeton announced an Ultra High Frequency (UHF) transmitter aimed at iPod Video users. The PCK-UAV Video Transmitter works like an FM transmitter but for TV signals. The device will display videos from iPod Videos or portable DVD players on your Car TV/GPS devices. You'll need a video cable to connect the iPod to the PCK-UAV transmitter. You can also connect other video source to the transmitter, so if you don't have an iPod, a portable video player will work just fine. Of course, this nifty device is useful only when you can't connect your iPod to a TV or a larger screen. It's one of those things we can do without, but we welcome the innovation nonetheless. No word yet on pricing and availability. |

The new A737 from Hong Kong based manufacturer Ever-E may not have the catchiest name, but it's a fascinating piece of kit. "What's the point in an iPod Nano case that makes it so damned big?" I hear you ask. Well, your Nano docks into it, and far from just being a protective case, the A737 acts as a Bluetooth adapter, broadcasting your Nano's music to the Bluetooth earphones of your choice. If that's not enough, it also packs in an FM radio tuner. It also carries a built-in battery, giving your Bluetooth broadcasting a five-hour lifespan. Not too shabby, even if it does bulk your Nano up a bit more than you might like. No word yet on availability and price yet though. [Via Gadget Review] |
