These include access to Digg, ESPN, Facebook, and other various websites. Web application developers should take note that they can also submit their original work to Apple. If they like it and passes their standards, then they'll place it up
on the site for other users to enjoy. As of this article's writing there are 215 applications available on the directory, so you will probably find something there that you'll want. This was a great idea from Apple, and will undoubtedly make life much easier for many people who regularly surf the web with their iPhone or iTouch. If we may add, this also seems the company's answer to the unprecedented number of underground programs springing up left and right. The poor guy who blew from boredom to stardom within minutes in Digg is now being hounded by Linux and Apple command line weavers for his apparent limited knowledge. In his opinion piece at the Apple Matters blog, he questioned the intuitiveness of Apple's Mac OS X when he committed a fatal mistake of deleting a directory vital to the Unix kernel. While Matthew Bookspan could be excused for being in a rush to delete his /usr directory, the fact that he did use third party programs (NO-IP, to be specific) to provide above average user access otherwise unavailable, turns tables against him. But even then, we can't see the relation of his mistake to the the Mac OS X intuitiveness question. Still, it should be apparent to anyone that there are things in your computer that just shouldn't be touched. Well, okay, that's not the entire truth: you can touch those sensitive folders, but only when you do have the technical knowledge or expertise to do so. In short, if you don't know what you're doing, don't do it. But granted Bookspan learned his lesson, new computer users should also be vigilant on what they're doing, what effects it would lead to and who the action will affect. And because the Mac is slowly squeezing into the corporate world, new Apple users should heed our advice. |

Apple TV, a product which enables Widescreen (16:9) enhanced definition or high definition viewing of media from computers with iTunes was announced last year. When it was released March 21 this year, the people who purchased it bemoaned the limited hard drive space (40 GB) and other functions that the Apple TV lacked. Barring any modification to the product, customers were stuck with the one model they released. Now, rumors on Digg have been surfacing that new versions of the Apple TV are going to be released. This started when one Apple TV Hacks reader eirikso pointed out that the Apple TV is being presented in the same manner as products with multiple versions. If you look carefully at The Apple Store's page for the Apple TV, you will see that it says "select your Apple TV" in the upper left quadrant of the screen. What's there to select when only one model was released? Hmm... So far there has been no word from Apple whether the rumors are unfounded or if the new version of the product is going to be released. More on this as more news surface. |

When Apple and Intel joined forces to revolutionize computing, lots of consumers and Mac aficionados couldn't help but feel good about it. And it seems that former, longtime Intel honcho, Leslie Vadasz, is just one of those people who's beaming about that partnership. Why is that, you may ask?Going over Digg, we found an interesting tidbit about Intel's Les and MacBooks. Apparently, when he was asked by someone if "he finally got to buy the computer youÂ?ve always dreamed of having, now that thereÂ?s Intel inside?", Les replied with a direct "you're god damn right!". Feel free to take a look at our image. Now that's a convincing endorsement. |

This next tidbit just goes to show that a classic never grows old and at times, doesn't diminish in value. Just what in blazes are we talking about? Going over Digg, we found out that an Apple Newton (which has been around since 1993) was recently sold at eBay to the tune of US$ 229. Apparently, the Newton sold at eBay is still shrinkwrapped, with the seller claiming that it has never been used and opened. Plus, he/she says that it has been stored in a climate-controlled environment. Anybody could speculate that the seller just had a shrink wrapping machine and he used to make some quick bucks, but then again, the guy has a 99.4% positive feedback. The bidding has already ended, but it's amusing to see just how much Apple aficionados are willing to pay to snag a piece of Apple history. Check out the read link below to check out the eBay site. |

Are you familiar with these supposed Mas OS X 10.5 Leopard screens?
Three days ago we featured these screens here at QJ to submit to the scrutinizing eyes of Mac users. There were skeptics and there were believers. Finally, the blogger who was the source of the screens, under the name of Trinity Rubicon, has come out with the truth to set the records straight. They are all nothing more but fakes. In his defense, I could vouch that he did keep us entertained at the very least and that this could probably be the most earnest blog entry I have seen in a very, very long time. He tells us in depth what inspired him to make these fake screens and how he did it. After reading the post it turned out to be a very good Photoshop tutorial. Here's an excerpt from his public apology/confession: I'm going to be honest here: When I posted those Leopard screenshots on Blogger, I was never expecting quite the popularity it ended up achieving. For it to get on the front page of Digg is one thing, but to have it get commented on 200 times is pretty surprising to me. I had no idea it would cause such a debate, and I really enjoyed reading all of your comments, whether you thought it was real or not (mostly the latter, though). But, seeing as my third screenshot didn't fool anybody, I think it's about time I just give it up. Maybe inspired by the comments of people that frequent the site, he decided to continue posting fake screens for the Leopard. His future plans include Finder, Desktop Switching and Virtualization. But this time we are no longer being fooled. We are just being treated to a faux fur extravaganza. |
