While technophiles the world over got worked up and hyperventilated at Steve Jobs' announcement of the iPhone, the Japanese simply looked up a while from their keitai, then went on with their business. And the reason for this? The fact that the iPhone has nothing new to offer to them.

While Jobs boasts of the iPhones new interface, the Japanese are finding it hard to believe that it is a "revolutionary product" that will "change everything". Apple also notes that the iPhone can be used to download music and surf the internet, as well as support one-way conferencing in the future. Over at Japan, the whole population have already been doing all this for years. On top of that, most phones can support five-way video conferencing, and their mobiles can also be used to buy train tickets, pay for taxi rides, design a webpage, update a blog, pay for puchases at the convenience store, book hotel reservations, watch a movie or the latest baseball game, use GPS, get exclusive content by scanning a barcode on the seats at the baseball stadium, and an entire plethora of other features and uses which Apple still seems to be clueless about (they should probably start off by checking out Strap-Ya, or something).

All this can again be attributed to one main attribute that Apple is missing, and that would be 3G technology. At the moment, the iPhone is still on a second-generation network.

So, when Japanese retailers were told about the amazing, new iPhone and its features, one shopkeeper merely laughed and said, "Sounds like business as usual".

Besides the actual North Pole, there's one specific place that picks up all the mail addressed to Santa Claus. It's North Pole, Alaska, and the the merry elves of Santa probably find it a little bit warmer there than what they're used to, though they get to read through all the mail addressed to the jolly red gift-giver.

According to a press release from Duracell, it seems that tech stuff is mentioned a lot in kids' Christmas wishlists. They compiled a gift index based for all this called the "Duracell-North Pole Gift Index." This Gift Index was created by reading through 1,013 Dear Santa letters sent to the North Pole.

Of the top 15 things asked for, game systems and portable music players got in, with Apple's iPod and the Nintendo DS being mentioned often. Here's their list:

While it's definitely not representative of what the world wants for Christmas, it's definitely an indication that kids are getting savvier with tech every year. Our only question, besides "world peace" losing its spot on the top charts, is why kids want Madden NFL 07. To each his own, we suppose.

Take it from Colorado Rockies pitcher Jason Jennings, an iPod can help improve your game. The Rockies' video staff has downloaded footage of every Florida Marlin's hitter into his iPod video, for him to figure out how to pitch to them.

"It's a good way to refresh yourself on how you got guys out," Jennings said. "It's an amazing concept."

Although videos have long been used in the league, to help players study their opponents moves, some people are still skeptics for this kind of technology.

New York Mets manager Willie Randolph doesn't have a problem with a player analyzing video, but it wouldn't have been for him. Randolph, a former All-Star, preferred extra batting practice to extra film sessions.

"I think it's overrated personally, but that's just me," Randolph said. "I'm from a different school."

So far the Rockies, have downloaded video clips into the iPods of 14 of their players and when on the road he compiles DVDs of their play and loads video onto the iPods when they return home.

Florida pitcher Dontrelle Willis, sums it up when he said, "Anything you can do to help yourself get ready for (games) is a good idea."
