iPod touch Apple - Image 1Both Apple TV and the iPhone received free goodies recently, with the Apple TV getting new DVD movie rental software, and the iPhone getting its latest firmware update. But how about the iPod Touch? It's getting its share of new goodies, alright, but it won't be free.

The iPod Touch will be getting new applications: Mail, Maps, Weather, Notes, and Stocks, most of which are already installed in the iPhone. However, users need to fork over a quite pricey US$ 20 fee before they can get the software pack.

However, Engadget supposes that people can still get the the software free of charge if they bought the iPod Touch after January 1st, which makes them covered by Apple's price protection. People within the price protection period will allow them to update the software of their iPod Touch, and apply a US$ 20 credit to cover the costs.

 » Phew!

I was just going to buy an iPod Touch before I saw this. I'll have to wait then. I hope the price will go down to $256.99 on Amazon.
