iPhone firmware 2.0: Geo-tagging function to be added - Image 1Wondering just what else Apple's planning to add into the iPhone's highly anticipated v2.0 firmware update for June? According to the people working with its beta release (aka fw 1.2), one new feature that's been spotted appears to be preparations for a geo-tagging function.

This feature basically allows the phone to associate the exact location you took your picture from. It can be the area's latitude and longitude, or even an exact name for a place. The phone will further allow you to sort your camera's photos based on where they were taken.

This much was implied by a new function for the iPhone's Maps and Camera functions, which were now asking the user if they would allow the phone to transmit and receive data on where it was geographically. The function can also be disabled via the iPhone's settings functions.

Apple's geo-tagging doesn't appear to fully functional yet - the testers note that their location data wasn't being embedded in the pictures taken with the phone. That's the latest details we have regarding the ongoing tests or the iPhone's upcoming firmware. Visit us again in case we receive word of any new feature being added.
