Apple WWDC keynote featuring the new 3G iPhone model - Image 1It's finally out - Apple's new iPhone model is now live and in 3D, er, 3G. Unveiled during the ongoing Worldwide Developers Conference event in San Francisco, representatives from AT&T revealed some of the more interesting price and activation details of the new 3G iPhone.

The latest model will come with a two-year contract and will be priced at US$ 199 for the 8GB iPhone 3G and US$ 299 for the 16GB version. Unlimited iPhone 3G data plans for consumers will be available for US$ 30 a month with voice plans slated at US$ 39.99 a month. Finally, business users can avail of a US$ 45 monthly data plan, in addition to a voice plan.

However, before you key in the Apple or AT&T website for your online orders, you might be a little disappointed to find out that the 3G iPhone can only be purchased at physical AT&T and Apple stores. Why the inconvenient policy? Here's a quote taken from AT&T spokesperson Sarah Andreani explaining the matter:

When customers purchase their new 3G iPhone, customers will activate the device in the retail store. This is the traditional wireless activation model that our customers are very familiar with. In-store activation should take just a few minutes and customers will be able to leave with their iPhone up and running. This will be especially helpful if any questions or issues arise during activation.
