Remember MacSaber and Desktop Manager (otherwise known as SmackBook Pro)? Both hacks take advantage of later Macbooks' motion sensor. Apparently, both these applications were triggered by writer/programmer Amit Singh's publicized methods for creatively using the sudden motion sensor.

A certain Raul, inspired by all these developments, has done a search for other hacks that use the Mac's motion sensor. He calls the twenty-something hacks he's listed as "handful" and expresses optimism that "more are in the pipeline". A few of the hacks he's listed in his blog are:

• SMSRotateD

Triggers screen rotation based on the the orientation data received from the Sudden Motion Sensor (SMS). The SMS is used to detect if the notebook has been "physically rotated sufficiently" wherein the display's orientation has changed from landscape to portrait. In such changes, SMSRotateD triggers an appropriate rotation of the displayed screen.

• AMS2HID

This is an application that turns SMS into HID, where orientation data retrieved from SMS is translated into input data for a keyboard or mouse.

• AMSVisualizer

Displays the orientation of the Powerbook in 3D where the onscreen picture moves with the movement of the computer.

• iAlertU

This is a car alarm system for the Macbook. When someone tries to move your laptop, an audible and visual alarm is triggered.
