gpSPhone v0.04 - GBA emulator for iPhone, iPod Touch released - Image 1Developer ZodTTD has released version 0.04 of gpSPhone, a homebrew GBA emulator for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch. gpSPhone version 0.04 is a few minor steps up from version 0.01, which exhibited a few crucial bugs that did not permit the trial of the emulator's primary functions. That's been solved with the new release, even though automated installation features have yet to be integrated.

If the name of the emulator sounds familiar, then it's only because you've encountered homebrew developer Exophase's gpSP emulator for the Sony PlayStation Portable. This Game Boy Advance emulator was ported by ZodTTD to the GP2X - a portable entertainment system (with games) by Gamepark Holdings.

The developer then added an iPhone-compatible dynarec, and now it can be played on the iPhone and iPod Touch, too. How about performance, you ask? Well, ZodTTD has also thought about that and recoded the emulator to achieve the as much speed on both platforms. This may vary with the many ROMs used however, and some aren't compatible with this build.

Sound emulation, according to the developer, is always active even if you don't hear any sound. Once an option to toggle it off is introduced, performance of the emulation will become almost like the real machine. The user interface may not be too friendly enough for some, and so ZodTTD offers what instructions he can at his web site. It's at the Via link below.
