For those of us who want to a bit of retro-flavored gaming joy on their Apple iPhones, here's some good news: gameboy4iphone by homebrew developer ZodTTD has just been updated to version 1.1.0 beta, and the updates are pretty big this time around. From sound to saving to compatibility with a certain monster-catching, monster-fighting game, this version of homebrew app gameboy4iphone is definitely looking to be more playable.

So, what's new with gameboy4iphone?

Changes 1.1.0:

• Fixed performance decreases when scaled on is set. Turning scaling off decreases performance due to hardware scaling usage. Gameplay should be faster than before.

Changes 1.0.0:

• Fixed sound, quality is now nearly perfect.
• Fixed landscape aspect ratio for scaling.
• Fixed save state files not saving to file correctly.
• Fixed RTC (real time clock), Pokemon should work better now.
• Fixed SRAM (saves on cart) so games now save correctly.
• Fixed some issues with the GUI such as save states not deleting.
• Updated portrait controller skins.
• Hopefully improved performance and compatibility slightly in the process.

For a GameBoy emulator on the iPhone, gameboy4iphone is certainly shaping up to be one of the slickest yet. In any case, here's hoping that the public version gets released soon, as this beta version is only available for members of the Beta Tester Club.
