Having problems sorting through the apps you've got loaded on Apple's iPhone? Developer lg is releasing information on a new hack, dubbed SummerBoard. This application will grant the iPhone's home screen (SpringBoard) the capability to scroll, which should ease up your search process. It also allows you to add a wallpaper to your SpringBoard, in case you're looking for a more personal touch to your mobile.
Before you get started on downloading this, however, be reminded that SummerBoard is still under development - expect plenty of bugs. Erica Sadun over at tuaw reports that she had to reboot her iPhone repeatedly to get SummerBoard working. SummerBoard is available for download via Installer.app Beta. This iPhone homebrew also developed by lg is a UIKit-based package manager that enables users to install or download on their iPhone via its Wi-Fi connectivity. It can also uninstall applications. Just remember to drop by lg's site for any information you will need to get the app running. The download for Installer.app Beta is available below. We've also posted a video demonstrating SummerBoard's functions, in case you're wondering how it looks. Download: Installer.app Beta |

Given the attention Apple's iPhone has been getting from the hacking community, we were wondering when somebody would try tricking out the unit's accelerometer. For the guys unfamiliar with this particular function, it allows the iPhone to detect its orientation, which in turn allows it to adjust its screen display accordingly.
And from the looks of this video we've picked up (posted by ealf), it's also become a new source of entertainment and (quite possibly) new homebrew implication - see the segment that demonstrates a tilt-based game in motion. The poster further states that this hack's source code will be available soon. For the moment, we advise readers to enjoy this teaser video, and keep alert in case this hack gives way to new uses for this mobile. |

This might be a hit or miss for most of you, but for the Mac enthusiasts (StrmnNrmn and myself included), this leaked video is one geekgasm you wouldn't want to miss. The short clip we are about to see is the introductory video for the new Mac OS X Leopard. Introductory video? What's that, you ask? Basically it's what fires up (in full screen, mind you) once you finally install Leopard into your system.
As introductory videos go, this one has familiar elements from previous OS versions' introductions, but generally, it's way better. The video is simple. It runs for thirty seconds with the word "Welcome" flashing again and again in different languages. Velkommen. Welkom. Bienvenue. Willkommen... You have to see it for yourself to appreciate it: What everyone's asking though is what song is used in the video. If you happen to know, give us a holler, why don't you? |

A lot of videos have been floating around the 'net about people finally cracking the mystery surrounding the iPhone code, making it work with any sim card inserted into it. However, unlike most anonymous videos regarding the subject, geohot and his group have found a full hardware unlock for the iPhone and made a careful documentary of it in a video on YouTube and on his site. Geohot has even gone as far as detailing the steps on how to unlock it on his blog, with the standard disclaimer that doing so may inadvertently brick you phone, so do so at your own risk. Even now they are working on a software unlock for the iPhone as well, telling everyone to stay tuned at their site when more updates arrive. The "legendary" unlocked iPhone was even put on sale at eBay at a starting bid of US $540. So far it has received up to 10 bids and has risen to US $1,575 as of today. The items in the eBay auction bid include: the phone, the serial dock accompanying it, as well as the official unlock switch depicted from the blog. While this sort of practice may not exactly be something that Apple may approve, it just goes to show that no matter how fool-proof the technology claims itself to be, the industry itself is an ever changing and ever evolving process that people will continually surpass and even improve it when applied properly. Hats off to Xerox for this tip! |

Hacking the iPhone's EDGE connection for your laptop's net-surfing pleasure? Nate True over at the cre.ations blog points this out as an interesting proposition with the srelay application, which when properly uploaded into your iPhone, turns it into a SOCKS server. Before interested readers can get cracking, however, the hack requires that owners run their iPhone through the Jailbreak app, and have had the phone tethered to their PC.
The instructions should be available in the read link, although readers are warned that using the iPhone's EDGE connection for their laptop may get them into hot water with AT&T terms of service agreement. Furthermore, the instructions that will be provided for were done using Windows only - the author has yet to test them on a Mac. And definitely no word if this may conflict with the previously detected Vodafone exploit. To give you an idea of how the whole hack will look, we'll also provide for this similar YouTube video we picked up, posted by buzzert1. |

Alan Joyce of EverythingDigital.org uploaded a video clip over at YouTube showing Blizzard's World of Warcraft running on Apple's iPhone. He was able to do it with the help of Telekinesis, a third-party streaming program that allows users to remotely access their Macs through a collection of mini web applications on the phone.
Joyce noted that the experience wasn't that smooth given WoW's textures, graphics, and sound settings among others. Despite that, Alan Joyce mentioned that he could control several actions in the MMO video game through the iPhone interface like receiving and responding to in-game chat messages. Anyone seeing a future deal between Blizzard and Apple? Possibly a WoW client for the iPhone? We guess we'll have to wait and see. |

Do you know exactly what Apple's iPhone can do and how to access all of its features? Some consumers might be familiar with those already but seeing that it's still a few days away since the phone's official launch, we believe that all of us still have to learn a thing or two. For the rest of us who weren't privy to that kind of insider info, we now have the option of taking a guided tour of the iPhone. The tour starts with an explanation of all the parts of the gadget. It then gets interesting after that since the video explains how to access all the features of the iPhone as well as shows a visual guide on how to do so. They've done some pretty amazing stuff with this product, but it still poses the question of whether or not it is worth the expected retail price. To be quite honest though, after seeing all the features, it feels that the features Apple included is quite worth it. Download the video. Check it out and tell us what you think about it. A little reminder though, the size of the download is around 173 MB. Download: iPhone Guided Tour |

We get to see a candid Steve Job in this ten-minute video interview with the Apple head honcho taken at All Things Digital 2007. It's a rare glimpse of the man who invented the iPod and what he thinks is in store for the company that dared to go up against fellow giant Microsoft.
Steve began the interview by explaining how Apple is trying to become four different things at once, and being pretty good at it: a computer business, a music business, a phone business, and a hobby. He also reported of the recent growth spurt the company's having, quantified as five times the growth of the PC industry. When asked about the iPhone, it was then that Steve clammed up, playfully avoiding questions about its features and functions. He did let slip a juicy tidbit of information - the release of the highly-anticipated iPod-slash-cellphone is still slated for late June which is definitely good news for us who can't wait to get their hands on one. Still on the subject of what he touts as "the best iPod ever made", Steve promised that owners will receive the Internet as they know it with the iPhone and not the mobile Internet we're made to make do with on our handhelds. He meant the actual, honest-to-goodness Internet we receive every time we log into our computers. Certainly a tall order, and Steve's confident he'll make good on it. A lot more info in the video itself, so enjoy! |

Now we're pretty skeptical about the claim, but it appears that a video brewing with "Mr. Notecards" and the almost intelligible mention of "iPhone" and "first" in the same sentence has appeared, so we decided to give it a chance.
Now you may not all remember the notecard shuffler, Stan Stigman, back when Steve Jobs first revealed the Apple iPhone, but he was apparently a 1970 West Texas A&M University graduate and handed over an iPhone to the current WTAMU president, Dr. J. Patrick O'Brien. What was AT&T's Wireless' CEO doing in WTAMU, you ask? Well, he was marketing "the new Cingular" company, AT&T Wireless, over a commencement exercise for WTAMU's graduates for this year. In conclusion to his speech (which you can't hear very much of in 42 seconds of audio distortion), he gave Dr. O'Brien what appeared to be a phone, mentioning it was the "first ... iPhone in the state of Texas." |

We just love them witty Mac Ads, don't you? Well we've got three more of them today, and this one only ups the ante on Apple's attacks against the Windows - particularly Windows Vista - albeit in a wholesome way, still.
The first ad is entitled "Party is Over" and it's got the PC guy complaining about the arrival of the Vista. Supposedly, the launch of Vista is one to celebrate about, but with all the accompanying hassle of having to upgrade and change peripherals and whatnots, it just becomes too tedious to enjoy at the end of the day. Then we have the "Genius" ad, where they added in the Genius character. She basically personifies the Mac Genius housed in every Apple store that will tell you everything you need to know and more. The last one, "Choose A Vista", has got to be my favorite among this bunch. PC introduces his 'spin-the-wheel' game for the Vista, since there's six versions of the OS. So, in order for him to choose which upgrade he'll be choosing, he puts it on the fate of the wheel. Anyhow, why don't you go check out the videos for yourself? That way, you'll better understand why the Mac Ads are such a hit. Maybe you'll be convinced to get yourself a Mac, too. Check out the Genius and Choose A Vista ads after the jump! |
