Apple Computers CEO Steve Jobs has postponed a recently-scheduled trip to India, where he was expected to, among other things, catch up with the company's new tech support installation there. Sources say Jobs is simply waiting until the proposed tech center service in India is up and running before he visits. Initial reports said Jobs was to have visited India the first week in April, a date that has been pushed back now to September. The push back gives the company a few more months to work on hiring the planned 3,000 workers to man the tech center. Those employees will handle most tech support questions in the future for all regions. Jobs may have an ulterior motive in visiting India. In the 1970s, he visited India on a personal 'spiritual' quest before he returned to the States. |

So here I was sitting with my hot mug of coffee, and my laptop searching around for anything I could scoop on Apple or one of its founding fathers, Steve Jobs. It hit me, after going through about 20 odd sites, I realised about 12 of them were dedicated directly to Steve Jobs. Some were either contributing information on his history, or just being outrightly obsessive. I tend to think that some people have what is becoming commonly known as Stevenular Jobinum of the mental state. So I've put together a few of my favorite and quite weird contributions to good ol' Steve's popularity, I hope you find them as humorous as I did: Steve Job's unofficial Biography, erm, enlightening What does Steve wear exactly? Over $1000, that's what Good old Wikipedia's take on Mr Jobs, factual If Jobs ever needed a Job, here's his Resume Quite an amusing video on Steve's iPod release (skit) |

Steve Jobs is always headline material. He headed Apple's ascension to the top of BusinessWeek50
and has joined the 29 best CEOs to round up the Barron's Hall of Fame,
and yet you can't get enough of him. Well, if you crave that much for
Steve Jobs, perhaps you'd be happy with some of the best Steve Jobs
quotes."The CEO of Apple Computer is a master of hype, hyperbole and the catchy phrase. Even when he's trying to talk normally, brilliant verbiage comes tumbling out." Here's his take on innovation and design, fixing Apple, sales pitches that got us buying so many iPods, Pixar, and even life's lessons. "It's rare that you see an artist in his 30s or 40s able to really contribute something amazing." -- At age 29, in Playboy, February 1985 "I've always wanted to own and control the primary technology in everything we do." -- BusinessWeek Online, Oct. 12, 2004 "The products suck! There's no sex in them anymore!" -- On Gil Amelio's lackluster rein, in BusinessWeek, July 1997 "Apple has some tremendous assets, but I believe without some attention, the company could, could, could -- I'm searching for the right word -- could, could die." -- On his return as interim CEO, in Time, Aug. 18, 1997 "We made the buttons on the screen look so good you'll want to lick them." -- Jobs, on Mac OS X's Aqua user interface (Fortune, Jan. 24, 2000) "There are sneakers that cost more than an iPod." -- On the iPod's $300 price tag, Newsweek, Oct. 27, 2003 "I'm the only person I know that's lost a quarter of a billion dollars in one year.... It's very character-building." -- Apple Confidential 2.0 |

Why
am I not surprised when I learned that Steve Jobs made it to the list
of the best CEOs in the world? Well, unless you are barred from
existence, you wouldn't be surprised. After all, Steve Jobs lives in
every iPod, iMac, iBook, and so on and so forth. The list, also called Barron's Hall of Fame, isn't arbitrary. Barron's chose the top CEOs based on the profit growth and stock-price gains of the company during the tenure of the CEO. Of course, they couldn't ignore the less tangible factors like leadership strength and industry stature. CEOs should at least be on the company for three years to qualify. Barron's relied on the expert knowledge of investors and their own staff. So what does Barron's have to say about Jobs? "Steve Jobs is more than the CEO of two hugely influential companies. He's an outright legend. No single person in Silicon Valley more fascinates the investing public. No tech CEO alive is more closely scrutinized." Amen to that. |

Apparently, Steve Jobs' exploits in Silicon Valley isn't going unnoticed by the larger business world. Noted by a financial magazine as one of the world's top 30 corporate executives, he is cited for his 'fascinating' nature.Barron's Report has released its yearly list of influential executives. They had this to say of Apple's main figurehead: "Steve Jobs is more than the CEO of two hugely influential companies: he's an outright legend. No single person in Silicon Valley more fascinates the investing public. No tech CEO alive is more closely scrutinised." His term as Apple's CEO has been converted into the stuff of legend. Restoring the former prestige of the company, and launching an all-out warfare agains other tech companies to end in the companies stock price soaring beyond anyone's expecations, Jobs has time and again proven the skeptical public wrong. Now that Jobs is also assuming a greater role in Disney as one of its top shareholders, more is expected from the man in lazy blue jeans and a jet-black turtleneck. |

I haven't been to any of the Apple stores that have the cool glass staircases, but I've seen some pictures. Now there's a great write-up on the origin of this eye-catching bit of architecture. It seems that none other than Steve Jobs himself is named on the patent file for this ascension technique. The technical feet is very impressive, considering the weight and code requirements that had to be met. The writer of the article gets a little excited (in my opinion) about the experience of walking up and down the glass stair case, but then again I've never done it, so I can't really talk. If you've been there, done that, give us the scoop - is it really THAT cool? |

While he may be off his rocker at times, The San Francisco Chronicle has a very interesting story about Steve Jobs just in time for the company's upcoming 30th Anniversary April 1st. The article is a very good read and has a keen insight on the man though Steve himself, at times quite media-shy, turned down the newspaper's request for a story.Inside you'll learn the humble beginning of the company making illegal blue boxes to allow people to make free phone calls on public phones, how the two Steve's who founded the company (along with a third person who quickly dropped out), Wozniak and Jobs, met and trace how Apple has gotten where it currently stands today. Of course it didn't happen all rosy and sweet and Jobs was known for cutting a few throats along the way. This is how one Macintosh team member described a week working for Steve Jobs way back in the early '80s: "You come up with a great idea. Steve comes at it and says, 'Oh, that's s -- ,' " and spends the next few days telling you how bad it is, said Steve Capps, a software engineer. Capps would keep improving the project, and by the end of the week, Jobs would call marketing and say, " 'Come look at this great thing we did!' Very few people ... have ever worked for him more than once," Capps said. "Because life is too short to really deal with that all that much." |

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has sold 4,573,553 shares of the 10 million shares
given to him by the company as a gift in 2003, to pay for the taxes
applicable to those shares. In business, executives are known to agree
to a "net share settlement" to pay huge tax amounts using a portion of
the shares they own. That leaves Jobs with 5,426,451 shares, or if
translated into dollars - a jaw-dropping $325.4 million. This is in
addition to the 120,000 fully vested options he received under the
director stock option plan. Now you know that even if Apple pays Jobs $1 as CEO, he is still one of the world's richest people. |

Forget
about Apple shares falling after the launch of the Intel Mac. It's not
something they should be worrying about. Instead, the company should be
losing sleep over the idea of a Jobs-less Apple. Apple has experienced
life without Steve Jobs in 1985 and it had a very close encounter with
the bankruptcy kind, something that they don't want to happen ever
again, which is why Jobs got his job back in 1997. Jobs has been
involved in design and even marketing of its products, in fact he's too
involved that he became Apple in flesh and blood. That's a good thing
if he is immortal. But of course, he's not and that's the biggest
problem that Apple will have to face.No doubt, Apple has a great future ahead, perhaps getting more success in the digital entertainment market, rather than computers, but without Steve Jobs, things will not be the same. And what makes things a little worse is the fact that Apple has no clear successor to Steve Jobs. Apple says they have, but it's confidential. In a situation like this, we begin to see that cloning Jobs may be a very good option. |

I don't know about anyone else, but I kind of like my apples when they're left out in the air a little to mature. Tastes sweeter. On the eve of Apple's 30th anniversary this April 1st, The Independent completes a quick study at how a company that was started in 21-year-old Steve Jobs' bedroom (whoa, there) has risen to a place where giants like Microsoft are taking notice of the little company that could. To paraphrase the article, Apple has maintained its composure through its many trials and tribulations, including when it ousted Steve Jobs from the company in the 1980s for being a maverick, returning to their decision in the 1990s when he was hired on again. We all know what happened next: the iMac started a simple and stylish design that began raising the awareness of the public to the 'other' computer company out there, which itself inspired the iPod. The iPod, small enough to be carried in one's shirt pocket, seemed to swallow everything in its path. The recent holiday season came and went and was one of the most fantastic for the company, with many millions upon millions of iPods sold. The only question as the company approaches that landmark anniversary is: what's next? |
