ZiPhone clues in new jailbreak software for iPhone 2.0 - Image 1

According to a status check at ZiPhone's blog, progress into the probing of Apple's iPhone firmware 2.0 has made serious leeway. In fact, the post says that with ZiPhone Beta 7, they've successfully unlocked the iPhone's baseband restrictions. This proves that Ziphone's next jailbreak release for 2.0 will be able to topple the carrier lock on the newly announced 3G iPhone.

They apparently managed to test firmware 2.0 on a 3G iPhone. Upon jailbreaking the firmware prefixed as ICE2 version 1.43, ZiPhone managed to course through a list of carriers officially supported by the iPhone. This list reflects all the 3G service carriers in each country that Apple has officially made a distribution deal with.

Early next month, iPhone software 2.0 will release, signaling the impeding arrival of the 3G iPhone. Well, not that there has been much doubt: the exact term used in the WWDC to describe the iPhone's ETA is "a month," so it could be shipped at the first week of July.

Soon enough, the iPhone user base will grow by the millions, opening up a larger audience for Apple homebrew. But how will they fare in jailbreaking? ZiPhone claims that its software will be available for users on Windows or Mac OS X, and its inherent jailbreaking processes has been recently advertised to be so easy that a "caveman can do it."
