We have been talking about the MacBook's "heating" issue for quite some time now. Some were saying that the thermal grease was the culprit, there was one claiming that the recent Apple flagship burned his wife's leg, and some consumers took matters to their own hands and tried to remedy the heating problem. The Apple people, seeing that there was a problem, updated the firmware yet kept consumers in the dark about it and it created more questions than needed answers. And now, there's another probable reason why your MacBook is so hot (literally). A guy named Gert Stahl had the same problem - the temperature of his newly-bought MacBook. He didn't seem to mind because he is so enthusiastic about his new baby and its capabilities, so accidentally, when he was exploring it he found a piece of laminate covering the the vent under the MacBook's screen. And being the thinking consumer that he is, he consulted his manual but there's nothing about it in there. So out of curiosity's sake, he took the laminate out of the vent which according to him was quite hard since the gap between the screen and the base is very tight. And to his surprise, his Macbook's fans went quiet. It seems that the laminate covers the whole vent so no air gets out at all. It may be possible that the manufacturers of the MacBook's casing placed that piece of laminate to prevent dust from entering the case. Gert also said that "my MacBook is running a lot cooler. The fans don't kick in all the time anymore." Some consumers already said that they found the laminate covering the vent, removed it, and experienced the same results as that of Mr. Stahl, while some did not find anything of that sort in their Macbooks. |

If they don't want dust to get in there, why make holes in the first place? I guess it is there to keep the dust away but should be removed when you start to use the macbook. Just like displays or other parts of laptops get a protective coat to shield them from scratches. I think that it is just not obvious enough that this should be removed, especially if it is really that hard to remove.
