Demonstration of Apple iPhone running Windows XP - Image 1 Demonstration of Apple iPhone running Windows XP - Image 2

We've already seen some progress with how the new Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is able to run Windows-based applications on a Mac. However, this latest Microsoft-Apple crossover is sure to get your attention - an iPhone which can run Windows XP.

During a recent demonstration at the Citrix Application Delivery Conference in Melbourne, presenters were able to use a client desktop software entitled "XenDesktop" to access Windows sessions over a Citrix server. This was possible through the use of the UNIX-based Citrix ICA client, which can access Windows on the iPhone via Wi-Fi.

As seen from the images we have above, the iPhone was still able to incorporate inherent features like its "pinch" controls to zoom in and out of the desktop. Only time will tell if even more integrated features such as these between the Microsoft and Apple platforms will be released in the near future.

So it's..............a vpn server? You can do this with the PSP, the DS, most modern Palm computers......what's the big deal? The computer has a server that send the screen to the receiving device as a big picture. The refresh rate is terrible and really isn't worth a *****. What would be the point anyway?

I hear ya, in regards to this being nothing but a term serv. But it has it's uses.

I assume they mean you can zoom the desktop with multi-touch? That's awesome.

Plus, with this I could access all my servers from anywhere within the company. Again, that's awesome!!! So many time have I been sitting at a desk needing to access a server real quick. That's a long walk for me!

I'm not sure why they singled out XP, as Windows server versions should work as well.
