Twentieth Century Fox & Apple introduce iTunes Digital Copy - Image 1If you like collecting DVDs or simply enjoy watching movies, then you'd be jumping for joy with Twentieth Century Fox and Apple's latest announcement. During the Macworld Expo, the companies announced the release of the iTunes Digital Copy.

Here's a short backgrounder on the latest service. A DVD of a Twentieth Century Fox movie can be easily transferred to the iTunes as a Digital Copy using a unique code that comes with the DVD.

Chairman and chief executive officer of Fox Filmed Entertainment Jim Gianpulo saw that their customers have been wanting this kind of thing for the longest time. The result was the iTunes Digital Copy. Gianpulo said:

One of the most requested features DVD buyers have been asking for is the ability to get the movies they bought into their iTunes library. We%u2019re thrilled to offer such an incredibly simple way for our customers to get even more out of their DVD purchase, and we look forward to releasing many more DVDs this year with iTunes Digital Copy.

How 'incredibly simple'? All you have to do is just purchase a DVD. A unique code is provided within the DVD which you have to enter into iTunes. Upon entering the code, iTunes will automatically copy the Digital Copy to the iTunes library. Take note that the DVD will only transfer the iTunes Digital Copy once.

In relation to the latest service of Twentieth Century Fox and Apple, Steve Jobs said, "Now movie fans can easily transfer a free copy of the movie they purchase on DVD into iTunes."

Debuting with the latest service from Twentieth Century Fox and Apple is the first DVD with iTunes Digital Copy, the Special Edition DVD premiere of the Family Guy "Star Wars" parody, and  "Family Guy Presents: Blue Harvest". Both companies have plans of bringing in more DVDs with  the iTunes Digital Copy this year.
