iPod - Image 1Word has been circulating around the Internet that Apple is finally preparing to launch a next gen video iPod that will feature a touch-screen panel similar to the one used in the iPhone within a year.

Longstanding rumors about a touch-screen iPod have been bolstered by a recent U.S. patent awarded to the Cupertino based company.

According to Apple Insider, DigiTimes has also added more fuel to the fire, citing "sources at upstream suppliers" that Taiwan-based Wintek will be supplying the touch panels. DigiTimes says that Wintek will "begin shipping capacitive touch screen panels in the second half of 2007".

Apple Insider also noted that during a private meeting last month at the Apple Town Hall, Apple CEO Steve Jobs mentioned that a division of the company was working hard on next gen iPods that would run an embedded version of Mac OS X.

This particular tidbit was picked up by Wall Street analysts, among them Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster. Munster wrote in a report to clients earlier this week that they "expect Apple to release high capacity iPods based on OS X sometime during or before Macworld '08 in January".

 » not really

It is a lightweight version of Mac OS X. Plus people got the full Windows + Linux running on psp which is less powerful than the iphone.
(its not our fault windows requires way to much power for running a word processor and ie (which sucks anyway))

What do people want most these days?

A small, lightweight color electronic device to hold music, movies, contacts, e-mail, SMS, easy to use, and not super expensive.

iPhone delivers most of this. Well, all except the not so expensive part.

From what I understand, flash memory seems to be better then hard drives. Hard Drives on iPods drain the battery. I have had both an iPod Video and an iPod Nano. I am MUCH happier with my Nano. The battery lasts so long, unlike my Video, it is small, lightweight, color, and has a screen that is just big enough to display what it needs to show.

Give me an iPhone for not only AT&T, that is Nano, a battery that is long lasting, and maybe has a removable battery, if thats not too much to ask.

I obviously don't expect that soon, so my iPod Nano running Linux and Doom is good enough for now.

I also feel that the iPhone has great potential, and even though the battery is alot of money, at least its not as much as the cost of the phone =P
