mood swinging, you can hop over to the full story for the lowdown on

iPod owners will be happy to know that crispSofties has recently released a new build for the iPod.iTunes tool for your Apple iPod. For the guys asking what this does, it synchronizes your iPod and computer, and evaluates the source for songs, videos and/or playlists (either from your machine or from the iPod) and only adds these. And unlike the iPod's default auto-update function, iPod.iTunes doesn't delete content in its target, and can transfer song-dependent data like My Rating, Last Played, Album Artwork, and more. This latest build is now at version 3.6.1 - we'll post a sample of the current changelog to give you an idea about what's been improved:

The Beta version of Skype 2.7 for Mac is now out and ready for use. For those unfamiliar with this program, it allows users to chat and send text messages for free. In addition to this, it can be used to place calls to both cellular phones and landlines for a nominal fee. Originally PC-based, the software has been reworked to run on multiple Mac platforms. If you'd care to recall, the previous version implemented a lot of new features, and the trend continues with this version. There are quite a few improvements to the program, here's a complete list of all the new features:

Winnydows has updated her video-converting homebrew application, XviD4PSP. XviD4PSP
is one of the most-downloaded video format converters for the
PlayStation Portable, Apple iPod, and Microsoft Windows / PC.
It is also useful because different video formats have different compression levels, so you are able to reduce video file sizes. XviD4PSP runs on Windows Vista or Windows XP SP2. Yes, XviD4PSP is a homebrew application "for" the PSP and iPod, but you don't run it on the PSP or iPod. If this is your first time to hear about XviD4PSP, we suggest you visit Winnydows' site. Additional info and minimal system requirements are listed at Winnydow's XviD4PSP page - YOU NEED TO READ IT (click on the "Read" link below). Past versions (like XviD4PSP v4.106 Final and XviD4PSP v4.107 Final) had a lot of bug fixes and new additions, but "XviD4PSP v4.108 RC1 Update" has only one notable change, but it's a significant change.

DOSBox v0.70 is the latest release from the DOSBox Team. For the uninitiated, it is a DOS-emulator that uses the SDL-library. DOSBox has been ported on different platforms, such as Windows, Linux, and MacOS X. The DOS emulator itself is open source and has garnered the support of a lot of its users. It emulates the following:
It's been reported that the program's stable and nobody's had any trouble with running classics such as Maniac Mansion, Alley Cat, Wing Commander, or Frogger. It's inevitable that there might be a few classic games that don't work with this version though. Note for downloads: The windows executable is in the main folder, the zipped .dmg file for MacOS X and the other file for FedoraCore. If you're a laptop-toting, Frappucino-sipping, free-spirited Mac user, tools and utilities that help you maximize your device will forever be a godsend. Despite Top 10 lists from every Tom, Dick, and Harry littering the internet, it's still always fun to learn more about what possible little apps you can feed your laptop-friend. Because quite frankly, sometimes being a well-versed Mac user doesn't necessarily mean you know everything.
This list, as compiled by Samuel Cohen in TheAppleBlog, includes applications from a wide spectrum of functionality. From efficient desktop managers to keyboard layout tweaks, from white-noise-inducing apps to handy pseudo-stickies that you can call on the fly - this list can prove to be useful for both Mac veterans and amateurs alike. With all these apps to download onto my laptop, I don't even know where to start! To check out the rest of the list, click the "Read" link below! |

For Apple's old- and new-timers alike, it's always good to have people sharing their own little tips and tricks that help them around the OS. See, the thing about Mac's OS is that it's flexible and can allow modifications through various tools and utilities. By personalizing you Mac to your heart's content, it's hard to not get attached to your digital friend (my PowerBook's name is Scar; what's your's?).And so, when someone comes up with their list of ways to "Trick Out" your Mac, you can't help but lend an ear. Michael from AppleGazette just came up with his 10 ways to "Trick Out" your Mac (although some of these are well-known among the aforesaid "old-timers"). Take for example, Pixel Press Icons. That's like everyone's neutral ground when looking for desktop icons (one time I changed my Adium duck icon to that of Chrono Trigger). There are more ways to get down and dirty with your digital friend: the Apple Gazette article also listed the heaven-sent plugin Pimp My Safari as well as CenterStage, NeoOffice, and the underestimated Automator function. Follow the read link below to see the list. |

Barely out into the market, and the iPod 2G may already be showing early teething problems. praseodym of Appleinsider reports that he had a minor mishap involving the new iPod model, which was designed to be clipped to the wearer's waist. According to his report, as he was standing up, the unit fell to the ground, its aluminum clip bent out of shape. Because of the way the clip was designed, he couldn't properly bend it back. While he could still run the iPod normally, the biggest problem was that the bent clip meant that the unit couldn't be plugged back into its original form-fitting cradle, which hooks up to the iPod via a multi-modal headphone jack. If it's any relief, there's news that third-party manufacturer THOUGHT OUT is making plans to produce a USB jack just for this port, which allows users to hook their iPod 2G's up to PC's like normal MP3 players. Below is an image of the proposed USB jack design. |
