Mac LogoThat line from the musical, Cabaret, is definitely true. Indeed, the best things in life are free. And what is the connection of that to this article? Well, apparently, one of the reasons why "PC" people find it easier to switch to Mac platforms is because of the free applications that you could get for your Mac. Not only are they free, but they are very useful as well. So with that, let us take a look at some of the free Mac applications that are making the lives of consumers easier and fun.

To kick things off, the GIMPShop. It is a free, open source, image editor pretty similar to the Adobe photoshop. In fact, the menu structure and most of the terminologies in it are somewhat similar with that of the photoshop, so you need not worry that you might find it hard to shift from Adobe to GIMPShop.

Then there's also the Adium X- a free, instant messaging application for the Mac OS X that can connect to AIM, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo and the likes. So you can manage instant messaging easier.

Next up is Handbrake, the perfect free (that's what makes it perfect!) app for DVD back-up ripping; this will rip any DVD and save it in a nice compressed .MP4 file, which is ready to go for your iPod. The NetNews Wire is also worth mentioning, since RSS is the buzz nowadays, getting a good reader is a must, so if you are using a Mac there is no better and free solution than NetNewsWire to get your news.

Gmail Notifier is also worthy of the blog space, if you aren't the type who doesn't like being a mail client, then you can simply use this so that you'll be notified about your emails.

Firefox is also a good free app which meshes well not only with Mac platforms but with any operating system. And who could  disregard the Flickr Uploader, which is deemed by most people as the best program for photo sharing, in fact Time magazine said that this one is "highly addictive", well, we can't blame them.

Are you in a hunt for an open source text editing software bundle? Well, if you are a Mac person, then you have the option to try out OpenOffice which runs on the X11 software, and is the perfect bundle for an office suite, again it's perfect because, well, it ain't gonna cost you a thing. Since in today's world, everyone needs a Bittorrent client, then you can try out Azureus, which is very easy to use and learn. Lastly, if you are in a hunt for a competitive file transfer protocol (FTP), then maybe you should give Cyberduck a chance, a lot of people are saying that it provides you everything you need for an FTP solution.

So there you have it, some of the best and free Mac apps that you could use at home or at the office. That is why we can't blame PC people if they are becoming Mac people, change is always interesting anyways.

 » Hmmm...

I have both Macs & PCs here. The GIMPShop, Gmail Notifier, Firefox, The Flickr Uploader, Open Office, and Azureus are all available for PC already, so they aren't really reasons to switch.
