So you thought our Apple coverage was over? Far from it. We got pics from Engadget with their blow-by-blow coverage of Apple's big Showtime conference. And for now, we'll focus on something everyone's been at the edge of their seat for. And so, hold on to your precious Pods and Macs. 'Cuz Steve Jobs gives us:

iTV: Let the *moving* pictures do the talking - Image 1 iTV: Let the *moving* pictures do the talking - Image 2

You can probably just skip reading all the text in this article; maybe go on to the pictures and let them do the talking. Are you sure about that? Steve Job's keynote address states that the iTV (still a codeword) will be announced on the first quarter of 2007. As of now, we're just being given a sneak peek. Their point is that they've got all these media content up in their iTunes store. And their next gen of iPods can probably play much anything already. So. Where does the iTV come in? Observe:

From store to computer to iPod.. What about your TV?

Well, what that picture basically shows is that the little box that is the iTV will be the central hub to bring all of your downloaded content on your big flatscreen TV. And your iTV will have to connect to your display, no, not through wires and cables. We're talking about creating a wireless network here. The iTV will be talking to the TV and display content from the iTV drive. Lo and behold, Steve Jobs has a working unit with him during the show, and demos the new device for us:

The only thing we can do now is wait for next year. But all signs point toward the possibility that Apple will once again revolutionize the field of media entertainment. And just as the iPod had changed the landscape of the world back in 2001, the iTV could possibly do the same. So who's going to win the next-gen DVD war? HD-DVD or blu ray? I'd say neither, Apple might have it in tha bag if this takes off

 » ^^^^^of course not

there will always be room for removable storage.
Itunes sells a *****load of songs but cds are still being sold in stores years later.

divx is 700 mb and dvd's are 4.7 gb yet i still download full dvd's. Same quality yet I spend an extra 10 hours downloadind full dvd's. And I'm not alone.

I do think that hard drive based media players will find a way to compete with discs but they will not overtake discs any time soon.

The ONLY way they stand a chance is with very competitive pricing. I mean like under 10$ for a movie and even that is pushing it.

Lets not forget about if your computer gets fried and all 500gb of movies are erased!

First of all, they could charge the price of a retail CD and people would gladly pay for it. Secondly, that's why you have an iTunes ACCOUNT, on a remote network, that knows which movies you own and which ones you don't. So if your HDD explodes, you can re-download the movies at no cost.

ITV is the name of a MAJOR broadcaster in England, so tis good job it is a codename, as it'd never go ahead. They should change it quickly
