Apple CEO Steve Jobs recently talked to the Wall Street Journal about the iPhone. During the interview, Jobs dished out a few big numbers about the recently-launched App Store.According to Jobs, iPhone users have downloaded around 60 million programs since the App Store launched last month. Even though most of the downloads were free, Apple still made revenues of about US$30 million, 70 percent of which goes to the app developers. Impressive numbers, eh? Even game developers have been surprised by the popularity of their apps. Simon Jeffery, president of Sega's U.S. division, called it "a substantial business" that "gives iPhone a justifiable claim to being a viable gaming platform." That pretty much translates to more iPhone games in the future. Jobs also addressed the issue of the iPhone "kill switch" found by Jonathan Zdziarski. Jobs confirmed that the kill switch - which according to Zdziarski allows Apple to remotely disable applications on your iPhone - does exist, but argued that it's just a failsafe in case a malicious program somehow makes its way past Apple's quality checks and onto the App Store. "Hopefully we never have to pull that lever, but we would be irresponsible not to have a lever like that to pull," he said. Related articles:

» Wow...
I never thought I could be simultaneously impressed and paranoid about hidden security measures in a product. Makes me glad I don't have an iPhone, I could see Apple trying to use the killswitch to axe homebrew apps somehow.
