The take-over business is sure the in thing nowadays, isn't it? Apart from the whole Electronic Arts-Take Two hullaballoo, there's another one in the works, this time concerning Square Enix and Tecmo. At 1PM today in Japan, Square Enix unveiled its plans of taking over game developer company Tecmo. The developer, responsible for bringing us solid hits like Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive, has been in quite some trouble for a while now, having Tomonobu Itagaki filing a lawsuit against them, and with employees resigning and grumbling about unfair business practices. Just last week, president Yoshimi Yasuda resigned, who will then be replaced by the board of directors chair, Yasuharu Kakihara, starting September 1st. The acquisition gameplan of Squeenix is in line with the publisher's strategy of get a stronger grasp in the U.S. market, as well as to improve and further strengthen Squeenix' portfolio. More details are sure to roll out on this acquisition in the following days, so be sure to stay tuned for that. In the meantime, we're hoping that things really do pick up for Tecmo if the takeover does happen, and that it goes smoothly, unlike with the long-drawn EA-T2 issue. Related Articles: |

» Wow.
It's not enough that they are making the ff games crappy but now they want to ruin Tecmo as well. They are worse than EA.

» FF Crappy?
I can't fully agree with you... If anything they are just experimenting with new stuff lately. XII wasn't exactly dandy but it wasn't as disappointing as XI, much less was X-2 but then again it was just a spin-off from X to keep the fans hush hush. I see nothing wrong with wanting to try new things. Moving away from the traditional turn based battle system I'm all for that. Have XIII Nova for example have you seen the new ATB? It's ridiculously amazing, and as for Versus it's supposedly going to turn out to be something like KH's. Having an open mind isn't a crime. As for what you said bout SE being worse the EA... I mean get real EA is worst then garbage. They make a new NFS like every month they hardly ever put effort into them. Only to make a few buks on the side. And do you even know how to much money SE puts into making ONLY a single FF? SE taking over Tecmo isn't really that bad think of the pass didn't Square merged with Enix think of the games now. Who knows Tecmo might be even better? Only time can tell.

» hmm
SE is getting might greedy lately.

» imo not a bad idea
i dont think its such a bad idea, and the comment about versus x13 being like kingdom hearts style that would be frikken awesome.
anyways overall square enix needs a subdivision where they can profit as their big sellers always takes them a while to complete so having tecmo under their wing is a good idea.
remember if they earn more revenue they will hire more developers, with more developers they can create more games/projects
just my 2 cents

» This IS GOOD
Think about it just cause there buying the company doesnt mean they are actually making the game if square buys tecmo it will be good cause they can use the tecmo developers to make a good fighting game. imagine cloud vs ryu hayabusa that would be cool. plus like that guy said above, any game that plays like kingdom hearts is awesome this works out better for both companies square is doing the right thing(except putting XIII on 360 That draws the line) atleast versus is still on ps3 exclusively

Maybe they'll throw some FF characters into the DoA mix.

"Dead Fantasy" anyone?

» Not too happy about this...
I don't know, just seems that ever since Square Soft Merged it's caused nothing but trouble...I mean, Enix has pretty much Dragon Quest and Grandia(which has sucked pretty much its whole span) . Squaresoft is obviously the provider in the whole relationship, and Enix is sort of the annoying Tumor growing on it that's just slowing it down. I disagree that newer Final Fantasy games are bad, even though it lacked in story and in depth character analysis, I still loved XII and enjoyed it more than most of the other games, though I did miss the great stories the other games had...oh well. Just interested what they're going to change their name to now...SquareEniTec or something stupid like that.

They're taking over, not merging
They don't have to rename if they don't want to

» it wasn't Enix
Enix are keeping Square and ff alive in some cases.
The reason why they are in decline is because of Hironobu Sakaguchi leaving- when he left he took Uematsu Nobuo with him. MistWalker- is a group I am GLAD as a JRPG fan to have in this world.

Actually Dragon quest is way more popular in Japan than ff.
