If some of you still remember the article we posted a while back about the Apple and Volkswagen "iCar" idea, it looks like the culmination of this little project has finally made an appearance with Volkswagen's new Space Up! blue dashboard interface during the recent LA Auto Show.

While it may not exactly be the "iCar", the Space Up! blue features an interface that's undoubtedly the trademark of Apple's touch screen technology. The 7-inch display slapped onto the center console uses proximity sensors to react to gestures without even touching the display.

This intuitive touchscreen actually makes interacting with the display a lot safer for the driver. Volkswagen announced that people still have a bit of a wait before they can find this new system in their rides, though. VW models will be equipped with the Space Up! blue by 2009.

You can also check out the new dashboard interface in action in the video below.
