Apple's iPhone is beginning to make headway into Southeast Asia, based on a recent announcement by the SingTel telecommunications service. The company, along with Bharti Airtel, Globe and Optus, signed an agreement with Apple enabling them to release the phone to the territories of Singapore, India, the Philippines, and Australia later this year. Australia's announcement in particular confirms recent rumors stating that Optus would be handling the iPhone's services in the area. As some of the readers may recall, Vodafone had announced similar plans last week, though their service is expected to cover 10 countries. It's interesting to point out that both companies have announced that they will be covering the territories of India and Australia, though no details have been announced regarding their specific arrangements for these to regions. SingTel in particular notes that more details will be arriving later on - drop by again when we receive any further updates regarding this matter. |
