Scrivener, corkboards, Post-Its - Image 1Personally, I am one of those really disorganized writers that can't stick to one part of my writing when a totally cool idea or angle enters my head. I usually end up tearing a new piece of paper or opening a new text window to jot down the idea before it evaporates into oblivion.

If you're a writer that doesn't write from beginning to end and makes a whole lot of insertions even before a good body could develop in the middle, you might be pleased to know about Scrivener.

It's a non-linear writer's tool that has hit the v1.0 milestone in development (although there are a lot of text editors available still) and is now for sale for all you Apple writers (great, now I need a Mac). The corkboard feature in Scrivener is one that other Office suites haven't provided users suffering from this condition of creating sudden, sporadic idea notes.

The idea of pulling out a Post-It, slapping it on the board with a new idea that could come in handy later in your writing is pretty good. Instead of having to place the note with the manuscript, you can have a whole collection of notes on the corkboard, each note with a title and a short note, plus a certain section of your writing you would apply the note to. Nifty, huh?

But all web designers and web content writers might want to think twice about trying Scrivener: it doesn't make it easy to export text to HTML - well, at least not instantly.
