Please, let this be real: some homebrew developers from HermitWorks toyed around with id Software's Quake 3, and managed to get it to work on Apple's iPod touch. But that's not the only remarkable part: they managed to enable multiplayer for the game running on the iPod touch!

To prove the great feat, the homebrew developers took a video demonstration of the two iPod touch units participating side-by-side on a multiplayer Quake 3 match. The clip looks believable: a round was fired by one of the iPod touch units at some point in the demo, and was immediately visible in the other portable Apple device.

Before you get all excited, you should know that the Quake 3 program modified for the iPod touch and used in the video is not yet up for grabs. Yes, we're sad too, but all we can do for now is to watch the video below and think that yes, you can have portable LAN parties using your tactile Apple media player.
