Some new details have just popped up regarding the upcoming Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.2 software update. The first matter will have much to do with World of Warcraft gamers.

This new update is expected to fix those annoying screen distortions you may have experienced if you're running WoW on a PowerPC.

Can't remember the exact problem? Here's the original tech report from blue-poster Tigerclaw from a few months back, when the problem was first detected:

We've been able to reproduce WoW graphic problems on G4 and G5 type systems with 5200 and 6800 graphics cards using Leopard 10.5.0. A bug report is open with Apple and NVIDIA on this issue.

This includes systems such as the PowerBook G4 12" (fx5200 graphics) as well as many models of the PowerMac G5 (single or dual processor) with 5200 or 6800 graphics cards.

The specific error manifests as a distortion or flicker of geometry in the game world that may come and go depending on scene content or camera position and angle.

That aside, observations of 10.5.2's beta version may not be address the backup compatibility problems that were reported for Time Machine's Airport Extreme + USB (AirDisk) drive. Stick around in case related updates are announced.
