Mac gaming (image from arstechnica) - Image 1Apple's Mac OS X has been added to the list of platforms supported by online multiplayer middleware solutions supplier Quazal. This was announced by Quazal via press wire earlier today.

Quazal technologies has been used in a lot of successful console and PC games, including Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent (PC, PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360) from Ubisoft and Electronic Arts' hit title Rock Band (PS3, Xbox 360, PS2).

Okay, so what does this mean for Mac users? For one, things will become easier for developers working on games for the Mac platform. Cross-platform play between Mac and PC has also been bolstered, so it will only take developers a little added effort to support it.

With the steady influx of game developers catering for the Mac audience, Quazal's move seems pretty timely and welcome. Justin D'onofrio, a producer at game developer Freeverse, said that Quazal's announcement will "definitely help to bring more games with rich online experiences to the platform."
