Aside from the occasional shooter you can play using a homebrew emulator, there hasn't been a lot of top down vertical scrollers available on iPhone and iPod touch. This is probably the reason why developer Lazrhog decided to port the rather unique indie shooter Noiz2sa to Apple's mobile platform.

Originally developed by Kenta Cho, Noiz2sa is an abstract shoot 'em up game which features some fast paced action reminiscent of the old school vertical shooters. Making use of the touchscreen interface, you control the ship using your finger as you defeat waves and waves of geometric baddies.

Here's the list of new changes implemented in Noiz2sa v1.1:

• Removed web high scores
• Improved front menu
• Fixed local score saving permissions

Noiz2sa is available for download at the iPod touch Fans repository site. If you feel like going old school with some intense top down shooting action, then go ahead and give this one a try.
