For those of you who might not be aware, Linux has been made available for installation on the iPod. Using Linux on your iPod allows for a vast number of expandability and customization, while still allowing the iPod to be used as it was intended. If you are running Linux on your iPod, there are tons of games, emulators, and applications that you can run on your iPod. The project is currently focused at porting the uClinux kernel to the iPod, but also includes a GUI version named Podzilla. If you are not sure if iPod Linux is for you, you can check out the FAQ table at iPodLinux.org. Here is a quick quote from iPodLinux.org on the current compatability of their project. Our bootloader allows for you to choose between either iPodLinux or Apple's firmware each time you turn on your iPod. iPodLinux is currently safe to install on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation iPods. We are currently accepting Donations towards the purchase of a fourth generation iPod for us to test with. The fourth generation click wheel, mini, U2, Photo, and Shuffle iPods are NOT currently supported. For the latest information on 4th gen development, read the Fourth Generation Project Status. |
