During the cold winter months in Wisconsin, avid iPod users find difficulty in comfortably controlling their MP3 player. In order to manipulate the touch-based iPod controls or AppleÂ?s standard remote control, pockets must be opened and gloves or mittens removed, losing precious heat to the cold. One possible solution would be to use general body motion to control the iPod as opposed to touch. This would require no dexterous tasks, only general movements. This same concept would also make controlling an iPod easier for active people (eg. riding a bike - you can keep your eyes on the road and don't have to use fingers) and those who lack dexterity and can't use their fingers to manipulate the iPod controls (eg. arthritis sufferers). The goal of the motion-based iPod remote control was to design and build a remote control for the iPod that responds to a userÂ?s motion. An accelerometer is used to detect the motion of a user. A microprocessor then interprets these movements and sends the appropriate commands to the iPod via its remote control port. |

Deepermotive has put togeather a little tutorial on how to make your own armband for your iPod Shuffle: When I moved to Orlando, I joined a local YMCA and shortly after that, wanted to listen to my iPod Shuffle while working out. I didnÂ?t want, however, to spend $30 for the official, uber-cool Apple armband. Without much thought, one day I decided just to go to Wal-Mart and pick up what I thought I needed to make my own. My homemade armband has turned out better than I could have expected, is much better than other, commercial armbands for mp3 players, and, best of all, cost less than $4 to make. You can read the full tutorial [here]. |

Apparently this guy got his iPod crushed after having it for only 2 days. He was on a train during rush hour and the face plate got cracked as well as the stainless steel back getting dented. He built this armored iPod case to protect it. Ungainly, but pretty cool looking! He has even given some specs to duplicate the design [here]. |

Ok, this guy really got crazy with this iPod speaker setup. These speakers are remote controlled and built from scratch for his wife Shuttle. This setup is build from scientific glass and aluminum, and the sub-woofer is an inverted glass dome, and a fresnel lense from a rail-car. The guts from a stock computer amp are used for the base electronics, and the speakers themselves are Apple Pros. |

A problem with organizing and browsing both classical and non-classical music in the same application (and in the same file system) is that for non-classical music we tend to organize by performer, whereas for classical music we tend to organize by composer. This presents a problem when browsing in iTunes, and also presents a problem for automatic organization of MP3's -- which tag should one use to organize by? View the full tutorial [here]. |

iPod Battery v1.1 is used to change the iPod battery indicator. By default iPod display a battery with some small tags. You can change to a numeric representation from 0 to 999, giving a better understanding of battery status. Open program and select your iPod from popup menu. Important notes:
You can get it in our iPod Download section. |
